You can play anything you want as fingerpicking. I do a version of Crocodile Rock, which is a piano song, in a fingerpick style. Find a song you like and make it your own.

Zurf,
I'd really like to hear that Elton John cover. Any chance of recording and posting? I'm trying to put together Rocket Man too. I'm a big fan of 70's rock covers.

My chances of recording are slim. I have a four track recorder I don't know how to use, plus downloaded Audacity but don't have a mic (and I'd need two because my acoustic is a straight acoustic - no "e" to it).
I'm sorry but you'll have to go to a riverside campfire to hear it.
Sometime or other I would like to put together a small studio. I'd like to record some scales for practice and to play harmonica over to improve my harmonica playing and my guitar playing in one shot. But at this point, money's too tight and space is even more constrained.
If I get a couple cheap computer USB mics for my computer I'll record it and send it to you directly. It's a pretty poor rendition because I'm a pretty poor player, but you can use it for ideas and make it better for yourself.

p.s. It's not really a cover - it's an 'arrangement.' It's more bluegrass the way I play it than it is rock.
Your response intrigues even more...bluegrass arrangement? Sounds awesome. I use Audacity and a very inexpensive Logitech headset microphone. I do have a pick up in one of my acoustics but I see no reason you couldn't mic it just as easily. I can't praise the software enough. For a hack like me it's been so much fun. I'm not much of a player and realize that I never will be. That being said, I've recorded several songs and had a great time doing it. It's very addictive. As long as your PC has a sound card you're looking at a $30 investment or so (of course you can spend more but...). This isn't professional quality but it's not bad at all. I could send you a sample if you'd like. I run the whole thing on a laptop so when I travel for work I can mix or even record if I want to. FUN FUN FUN.
I too have a space and privacy problem. On some of my vocals you can hear my 2 year old yelling over the baby monitor installed in my office. My 5 year old also has a small guest vocalist spot on a track big fun!!!
Another great feature is I can collaborate over email with friends. I have a friend who's an accomplished musician, I'll send my tracks as mpegs over email and he'll add organ, bass and drums.
Sorry for rambling on...just wanted tyou to know how much joy I've had with home recording
I ought to be able to come up with $30. May give it a try. Not real soon, but your request is noted.

Zurf you only need one mic. With Audacity (or your 4 track) you can first record your guitar and then play the recording whilst using the mic for your vocals.
I do not know if there is a limit to the number of tracks you can use with Audacity as I have only recently started using it but I have just recorded a song with a drum/bass track, 2 guitar tracks, 1 autoharp track and 4 vocal tracks. 8 tracks in all which you can then pan left or right and control the volume to get the balance right - fun and games.
