Topic: If I Could Only Fly - Pick Pattern

Can anyone advise me of the correct pick pattern for this song or if it has been requested before where I might find OR even a book that I could buy?   This is my very first time to communicate on a forum so be gentle with your replies.  Many thanks oldsymo

Hi Oldsymo,

Sorry I do not know this song and I cannot help you but I just wanted to pop in and welcome you to Chordie. There are members of all ages and skills and I hope someone can come up with the goods for you on this one.

Hello Oldsymo,

A warm chordie welcome to you! Who's the artist and I may be able to help? Merle?

Hi  everyone and thanks for recent and immediate response.  Firstly, anyone who is not familiar with If I Could only Fly should check it out on You Tube. The lyrics are super.  Secondly, if my memory is correct, the song was originally written by the late great Blaze Foley but it is probably more popularly known to Merele Haggard fans.  Also, check out a cover version on You Tube by a guy called Teledude 1972 ....very good. Guitarpix any version would be warmly appreciated

Re: If I Could Only Fly - Pick Pattern

Hello, I don't have this song in my songbook but I listened to the melody and played it,I don't know if there is a correct way but I finger picked it with a thumb, middle and ring finger pattern and I alternated the thumb on the bass line, added some walkdowns and hammerons and it sounds nice.

Good Luck, Wayne P

PS There are Chords and Lyrics under Merle Haggard

You can also find it on www.countrytabs.com
