Topic: COILS/ HUMBUCKERS what to choose FOR THE BEST SOUND
There are probably more pick-ups than guitars, single "hot" coils, humbuckers, the list is too long.
About coils, this might be a more "professional" question, what are the common CRITERIA (is this the correct expression?) used by people who love to work with guitars, like changing coils, and experimenting.
- How are we able to know if we buy or try a coil or humbucker?
- ABOUT SOUND: what is needed to buy, or (re)place the ideal coils. Playing an electric guitar, you want to have the "ideal" sound. The sound is like told very, very important.
WHICH ELECTRIC GUITAR, USING COILS gives the best sound?
WHICH ELECTRIC GUITAR, USING HUMBUCKERS gives the best sound?
IS A COMBINATION, COILS & HUMBUCKERS BETTER? Like PRS 513 = HUM -COIL-HUM.
I started thinking about this since I replaced my GIBSON LP CUSTOM 1968's HUMBUCKERS by SINGLE COILS: P-94's. They had only the neck P-94, and I had to wait 2 months. I can tell you this: the sound was overwhelming.
This topic is more in function of the music style you play.
- JAZZ = A SOLID BODY (or Hollow Body) = SINGLE or Humbuckers?
- BLUES = single coils, like a Gibson LP, with P-90, or a FENDER stratocaster, standard are best choice?
- POP/ROCK ? This is in fact the reason of this topic, the coils + influence on the sound.
- MY GUITAR PLAYS EVERY STYLE = BLUES, ROCK, METAL, so I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY IT.
