Topic: So what do you play?

I was just wondering what songs some of my fellow Chordians play. If you have a songbook how about throwing up a link so we can check out what you've been up to. I think it's a great way to get to know people. I feel you can tell alot about a person by their music.

I Play a wide variety of music and get alot of my music from books but I have about 60 or so in my songbook. It should give you a good idea of the styles I prefer to play.

I play almost 100% acoustic. I'm currently going through a Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and Bob Marley phase. Just can't seem to get enough of it..lol I have a real percussive playing style.

That's a great list of songs.
Some artists I am familiar with, others I do not know (Sick Puppies?). . . but I see that as an opportunity to extend my horizons.

I like to edit a few songs to my liking and then post the book, so I have several books with just a few songs in each.  I put up "Folkie Dokie 2" just a couple of weeks ago, but nobody has rated it yet (not that it matters since most of the songs in there are probably prehistoric to most chordie users).

Thanks for the correction there James! Sorry bout that. You've got some great songs in there! I nice range of music. I found quite a few to play with.

1 have one song in my book "do run run" i play other artist songs Gordon Lightfoot,John Prine The Eagles and a host of other artists but (and dont take this wrong) I have been engrossed with my own composistions and put everything else on hold,after i finish with my projects i can relax for a bit till the next idea pops into my noodle

Something odd here last rebel either you like exactly the same songs as me or chordie got its wires crossed as your link goes to my songbook lol
What's gives here.

I've log out cleared the cookies etc and signed back in and both last rebels and UYK links go to my songbook.
Is just me.
Is there an answer does anyone care....

Last rebel and upyerkilt, both of your links are carrying me to my own songbook? I had the same problem with mine. James corrected it for me. I believe you may have to search your songbook by name and post the link versus hitting my songbook and posting that one. Not sure though...maybe someone else can help us clear up the glitch...Peace!

I just published it for this thread.  I don't know how to do multiple songbooks.  I don't care to know because I can find them in one place now and that's probably best for my limited brain to handle. 

I published it, then went to public songbooks and searched on "Zurf" and posted the link it brought up for my songbook.  I hope that works.  If not, search on "Zurf" in the public songbooks and you'll find it.

I play none of these like covers.  For instance, I play the classic rock piano song "Crocodile Rock" in a fingerpick bluegrass style.  The Johnny Cash songs I stay somewhat true to form because it's tough to do Johnny Cash any better than Mr. Cash (God rest his soul) did.  I'm still working on that boom-chicka-boom sound.

Hmmmm . . . OK, so it seems that the link from 'My Songbook' will not work here . . . such a link will merely transport a user to their own songbooks.

Here is how to get a good link that will take people to your song book(s) via the Public Books listings (must be logged in):
  Go to the 'Public books' tab.
    Scroll down and right below all the categories is a search box.
      Put your username into the search box, hit search.
        A list of all the song books you have published will appear.
  Now, copy the whole url from your browser's address bar.  This is the link that will work.

I post this with some trepidation as to whether I have mastered James' instructions 

lots of rock and pop here - mainly easy sequences

as I play unaccompanied I usually play rythym parts - I have lots of fun from playing different rythym grooves, whether laid back reggae, funk, ska, blues shuffles, straight ahead power chords or gentle arpeggios.

Hey man, I was really surprised to see "Rudi, a message to you" by The Specials in your songbook! I love this band and very few people (at least in my part of the world) know who they are. It's a great song though and loads of fun to play. I posted a link to the vid for it about 6 months ago here on chordie to spread the word. Are they well known in London still?

I think people do remember the Specials if they were were into music at the time. However, it was the start of the 80's when that number came out in the UK. The thing I like about that song is that it is about the most straight ahead ska number you can imagine. it has the right chords for a ska number - and the right rythm part - and as you said there's an excellent vid on You tube.  The specials have reformed with various  line ups in the 90's but have never attracted much main stream attention. Perhaps they will reform ?

Hi everyone,

I have published a collection of songs we like to sing at our family reunions. Easy to paly and most people love to sing along. I've corrected some of the lyrics & chords. I send the family members a link to the song book and I also 'print the songbook' out to an html file - makes it easy to use when you dont have an internet connection.

Ah, great memories ! The Specials were.

I was at a UB40 reunion gig earlier this year - dancing in the body of the hall for the first time in centuries - and dance we did ; best aerobic exercise ever.

For anyone interested, I recently read a book by Mr Horace Panter, the Specials bassist, about the Specials called "Ska'd for Life", It's a good read.

I play a mix of folk, blues, 60's pop or stuff by groups like Traffic.

Actually, my tastes are quite eclectic and roams all over the place depending upon my mood.

Gordon Lightfoot, Mary McCaslin, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Beatles, Phil Ochs, Henson Cargill, etc.

I play just about everything but jazz. I'm primarily a heavy metal and blues/hard rock guitarist... I'm quickly getting sucked into the world of foreign of Folk metal and Black Metal...
