Topic: Life

More thoughts and reflections on where my life would be if the pitter-patter of responsibility had not come along and made me grow up. I hope you all like it.

Life By Jeff Gilpin

December 1st, 2007

Intro

[D] [E]

Verse 1

[Am]For many years it seems to me

My [G]life has been for [E]family

How[Am]ever noble my life seems

[G]I once had quite [E]different dreams

That now [D]seem [G]

A[E]nother [Am]life

Verse 2

[E]My [Am]life was once only my own

[G]Worry free with[E]out a home

I [Am]came and went just as I choose

But [G]looking back [E]I suppose

That’s how it [D]goes [G]

[E]Going through [Am]life

Chorus 1

I [C]met a girl

We [E]fell in love

Our [G]romance [D]grew and [Am]grew

We [C]married

And we [E]had a child

My [G]carefree life was through [E]

Verse 3

[Am]Then we had another child

And [G]how my mind was [E]going wild

How [Am]to support this family

I [G]had to keep them [E]worry free

My job you [D]see [G]

To pro[E]tect their [Am]life

Verse 4

[E]So I [Am]traded in my carefree style

To [G]work and study [E]for a while

Which [Am]lead to what I am today

[G]Older, wiser but [E] doing okay

With some time to [D]play [G]

At this [E]stage in [Am]life

Chorus 2

I [C]still have my girl

And [E]we’re still in love

With [G]romance [D]still in our [Am]hearts

[C]Many years of

[E]Raising our kids

[G]But now a different life starts [E]

Verse 5

We [Am]have some time to do our things

And [G]fear not what to[E]morrow brings

We [Am]watch as our children mature

[G]And they start care[E]free for sure

How long will it [D]endure [G]

[E]In their [Am]life

Verse 6

[E]So [Am]long ago those carefree days

So [G]distant looking [E]through the haze

Where [Am]would I be without the girl

Or [G]children brought in[E]to this world

Like an oyster with no [D]pearl [G]

I thank [E]God for this [Am]life

Chorus 3

[C]My little girl

[E]Is all grown up

[G]My boy [D]is quite a [Am]man

[C]How long I wonder

[E]Until they both hold

[G]Their own children’s hands [E] [D] [Am]

Re: Life

I have a nephew who had a son while he was still in high school and he had to grow up pretty fast to deal with it. Now he's in college and I think he's doing much better than he would have I think if he hadn't had his son. That made me consider how my family and specificly having children effected my life. My kids are now in serious relationships so I'm sure it will not be too long until they start the same cycle.

Re: Life

A good family cycle should last forever. Like the "Crosby,
Stills, Nash" song "Teach Your Children", so a family can be strong. Your song made me think of all my brothers and sisters scattered all over Canada.[3 boys 4 girls] Thanks Jets, hope to see them over the holiday season.

Have a good day... Badeye.

Re: Life

Very nice jets, very nice. marcalan

I thought ; If I had one idea,
and took it from beginning to end.
I would try another.

Re: Life

Thanks Badeye - I really like Crosby Stills and Nash; Guinnevere still gives me goosebumps when I hear it. I'll have the girl home around the 22nd or 23rd but my boy's over in Iraq again for a while.

Thanks Marc - It's kind of a folky tune but I have to play it fairly slow so I can fit all the words in I put in the lyrics. I guess I need to work on that more.
