Topic: The Young and the Old of It

In the morning I have to go in and do blood work for a physical I have coming up on the 4th and I’m well into the fasting part of the night, so I’m a little cranky. I cannot remember any time when I was a kid that I had to fast for anything. I also remember that when I was a kid I wanted to be older but I never thought of the down side of being older. Slowing down metabolism, old injuries coming back to remind me of them and the ever constant going to work to pay for all that needs paying for. So that’s where I got the idea which I originally titled Getting Old Sucks but later revised to what you see below. I hope you all like it.

The Young and the Old of It By Jeff Gilpin

November 29th, 2007

Intro

[C]

Verse 1

[G]A long time a[D]go

I [G]had this simple [D]dream

[C]When I grew [F]up

I’d do [C]almost any[D]thing

Verse 2

Well [G]here I am all growed[D] up

Way [G]past where I set my [D]sights

And [C]all those things I [F]planned

Well [C]I think I just [D]might…

Chorus 1

[C]Forget about them for now

Because I’m [Em]working in the morning

[G]Anyway it’s getting [C]late and I’m pretty [D]tired

If I did [C]some of those things I wanted

I’d most [Em]likely get bad hurt

And the [G]others would most [D]likely get me [G]fired

Verse 3

[G]Back then it [D]seemed

What you [G]got for being [D]older

Was [C]unlimited [F]access

To a [C]life that was much [D]bolder

Verse 4

[G]But as you grow [D]older

[G]You finally can [D]see

The [C]down side of [F]what

[C]Growing up can [D]be

Chorus 2

[C]Forget about it for now

My [Em]sights are on different things

[G]Like a little [C]time think and re[D]flect

[C]What I wanted as a kid

Now makes me [Em]shake my head and laugh

[G]Aging not quite [D]like what you’d ex[G]pect

Verse 5

[G]So as I pre[D]pare for

A[G]nother wellness [D]check

I i[C]magine the younger [F]me

Thinking [C]this is not cor[D]rect

Verse 6

[G]But the older [D]me

[G]Now has younger [D]dreams

[C]Of those yearsa[F]go

I could do [C]almost any[D]thing

Chorus 3

[C]I’d be hard to navigate

I [Em]can’t get there from here

At [G]least I can’t [C]from this place and [D]time

So in[C]stead I’ll eat a little less

[Em]Workout a little more

And [G]strum a little [D]while I search for [G]rhymes

Lovely Jets,

Sure if we all knew how long we were going to live , we would all mind ourselves better? Or would we. I have had a blast. Still do only less of it.
I also know now there are lots of things that can only be done with youth
on your side. { Big Groan}

Ah well! Off to the pleasures of work. Yipee! Its friday.

Good luck with the Bloods. If green shows up! dont worry its the Irish
in you! For a small nation, we have managed genetically to infiltrate
every other gene pool.   .

Old Doll.

Why Blend in with the Crowd ? When you were made to stand out !
