Topic: playing with chords way out on the neck like 5th fret type stuff

i would like to find some songs where i can learn fast how to read the tabs and then go on from there. unfortunately i cannot do that because i've never been able to read tab and do chords at the same time.
thanks and i really appreciate it

not sure i understand

if you want to play chords at the fifth fret then you might want to use a chord chart rather than tab - you take a barre chord and move it up the neck.  at each sucessive fret the chord changes one note so an e shape on the 5th fret sounds like an A

it is possible to work out chords from tab if the rhythm part is tabbed because different chords have different shapes - there are five main bar chord shapes C,A,G,E and D.

I can see where tabs would be helpfull when looking at lead parts, but I never understood why bother when we're talking about rhythm?  I see tabs that run 3-4 pages and all it is, is 3 fifth chords repeated over and over and over.  I say just learn the chords and be done with it.

When I play bass in a jazz band at school i read the tab for the notes and the music for the rythym
