Topic: When is it enough for you ?

I own five guitars and I'm sure as I can be that I have enough for what I do,  how many guitars is enough for you and do you think you can have too many. My wife thinks I have more than enough but you never know when you see that one guitar you must have.

Re: When is it enough for you ?

Are you married to my wife too? Just because I'm in my 70's she wants me to sell all my stuff before I die. I may have given up gigging but not living or playing my acoustics(4), my basses(2), my keyboards(2) or my drums(2 Alesis kits). I do have to work hard not to buy anything else I like my meat and two vedge where they are

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: When is it enough for you ?

Hi Phil. I'm with you on that I could never sell any of my guitars would take them to the grave with me if I could just like Chuck Berry did.  Did you attend the Guitar show up in Birmingham this last weekend ?  I was there on Sunday and could of easily come home with at least half a dozen new guitars I felt like a kid in his favourite toy shop lol.

Re: When is it enough for you ?

Colvon, I try to avoid music shops and trade shows as I always come out in a bad mood cos I cant have something or other! I walked into a shop in Swansea a few years back and a guitar caught my eye. I played it for a few minutes (half an hour apparently) and went back a few days later (after dreaming  about it) and bought it, I was younger then! Same thing happened when on a day trip to Western Super Mare, got off the bus, saw a music shop saw a guitar played it, the wife said buy it if you want...so I did. But that was the end of my collecting. I even get my strings on line rather than go to a music shop in case I get itchy fingers!

Re: When is it enough for you ?

I had close to 50 at one time. Most were bought before the pandemic.
I`m down to 28 now. The values went up during the pandemic. I was able to sell the ones I did at a profit. Sometimes over 100%.
So I was able to get higher quality equipment a lot cheaper.
Last example. A Taylor 510 for $700 out of my pocket, It was on sale for $1200. I had the other $500 with the money selling guitars that cost me $700 total.
