Topic: Just A Girl From Texas

well as long as we are on the Country Texas theme smile
and I figure since Mojo being from Texas, he might have known a few in his day  smile

I wrote this little song......
Chords might not be the best but what the heck do I know about music ?  smile

Just a Girl From Texas By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

.

[C]Met me a woman down in San Antone

[C] skin soft as satin but a [G]heart of stone

with [G] fire in her eyes and whiskey on her lips

I could [G]feel the heat a comin’ off her [C]finger tips

,

Verse 2

.

[C] She wore a cowboy hat and tight blue jeans

[C] caught my attention if you [G]know what I mean

we [G] danced all night to every song

I went to get a beer, she said [C]“don’t be long”

.

Chorus

.

[F]Mama said watch out for those naughty girls

[C]the ones with big smiles and hair full of curls

[F]the ones that are wild, and a little bit reckless

[G]Mama said stay a[F]way from those girls from [C] Texas

yea [G]Mama said stay a[F]way from those girls from [C] Texas

. Verse 3

.

[C]Well she took my horse, my boots, and gun

[C] And said hey cowboy “let’s [G] have some fun”

[G]she rode my stallion all through the night

out where the stars are [C]big and bright

.

[C]woke up the next morning at the break of dawn

[C]lipstick on my shirt, but [G]she was gone

[G]found a note on the table said we'll meet again

but I don't why and she [C] didn't say when

Chorus

.

[F]Mama said watch out for those naughty girls

[C]the ones with big smiles and hair full of curls

[F]the ones that are wild, and a little bit reckless

[G]Mama said stay a[F]way from those girls from [C] Texas

[G]Mama said stay a[F]way from those girls from [C] Texas

yea [G]Mama said stay a[F]way from those girls from [C] Texas

slow

oh but [G] Mama I think I [F]love that girl from [C]Texas

Yea the [G]Lord knows, I [F] love that girl from [C]Texas

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

That's some darn good writing Jim.  The first two verses describe events but then the third one allows each listener to imagine  what happened next.  Its like looking at two still life paintings then at a piece of abstract art that is connected to the first two but allows the viewer (or listener in this case) several choices of what the last one portrays. (Did she steal his horse, boots and gun and then abandon him and ride away or did she remove them so she could ride a different "stallion")? wink

Do you plan to record it? I'd like to hear your version.  You are  probably a lot like me, a self-taught guitar picker that just likes to write songs and doesn't feel like you are a "singer/performer", but I always like to hear a song straight from the craftsman that made it before it gets "dolled up" by others. Whenever I hear a song I like, the first thing I do is try to find out who wrote it and hopefully hear them play the "original" version and the vision of how they think the song should be performed.

I want to read my own water, choose my own path, write my own songs

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

Hey Jim that song rocks even though it's a country, cowboy, barroom thing. Texas is getting a lot of attention lately. Let's hear it...

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

Jim love your song and the way Mojo has got everyone thinking about Texas. Easy Beat  has a song writing  muso mate  David who yesterday ended up in hospital after falling into some cactus. I was thinking maybe I should write a song called Texas Cactus Blues  about a cowboy whose horse throws him of into some cactus after a bad day out with his girlfriend one of those girls you wrote about with tight blue jeans.

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

Thanks Ken.   I may give it a go if I get time.  I was just having some fun.
Phill hit it right on the head - I wrote it thinking it would be a pretty good cowboy bar song.  smile

Thanks Brian - Texas is not an easy word to rhyme.
Peatle - thanks for the kind words - I believe that you have the makings for a very good song
as that title definitely would draw attention.  Hope you do it !

Thanks again guys !

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

Goodnight Jim Bob!

Pete how about this for your opening line...

She rode my horse like her butt was on fire..
Her tight blue jeans up to her waist.
Her chequered shirt tied 2 inches higher.
And I had to ride hard to keep up.

I can imagine it sung to a kind of ghost riders beat. Over to you

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

I look forward to hearing you do this one Jim.

I had just arrived back home in Texas.
After spending six months out at sea.
Looking at her belly button.
Brought out more of my naval instincts in me.

Back to you Phill or anyone else with a verse.

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

nice one Pete, made i laff. I thought my verse was risque...lol

my sea legs hadn't quite acclimatized
and the saddle was chaffing my thighs
i watched as she bounced in her saddle
all i could see were her gorgeous big eyes.

who's next?

Re: Just A Girl From Texas

hope it's ok - made a couple small changes and added a verse.

This needs a chorus too.

She rode my horse like her butt was on fire..
Her tight blue jeans up to her waist.
Her chequered shirt tied 2 inches higher.
with ruby lips that I'd love to taste

I had just arrived back home in Texas.
After spending six months out at sea.
she was a little rough around the edges
but that just stoked a ship's fire  in me.

we got together at the local watering hole
to quench our thirsts with whiskey and beer
then she started dancing out of control
I thought " what the heck am I doing here ?

That Gal aint no Texas Rose she's a San Pedro  Cactus.
Don't want to burst your  bubble bud there will be trouble.
She aint the sort we want in here,.
So make this your last beer.
Take her with you  get out of here.
I don't want no trouble.
