I have not used Audacity in a while but I think you must go to the spot you want the song to stop at and use the trim tool or split the file at the indicated point and delete the shaded area I will open Audacity and check it out for you with an old file and get back to you,
ok, Joe, I opened it and it is very easy just point your arrow cursor at the spot you want to trim and left click and move the cursor to the RIGHT it will turn gray then go to the upper left of the screen and open edit and select delete and "poof" it's gone! hope this helps. Russ
Ah that's what I'm doing wrong. I'm trying to delete using the delete button like you can do with native Mac apps. Thanks!

your welcome glad to help remember to hold the right click down and move it RIGHT the area will stay gray then you can choose to fade it out the same way by selecting from the effects menu, I am correcting my earlier post I think i said move it left
OMG, as the kids say.
I am so stupid. I was trying to click above the track (where the time markers are), not in the track itself. Thank you. Jeez I feel stupid.
Thank you again.
just glad ya figured it out, i can't tell you how many times I have done the same thing usually when I am working with some new software the simple things can be a bit frustrating
BGD, I use audacity all the time , also you can use the standard highlight a little bit, then move to your finish point, hold shift and click to highlight a big section, an you can just hit the delete key. Have you figured out the effects options? I find if you go into effects preferences or settings, its nice to lengthen the preview time as its so short by standard you dont really hear what your trying to hear. some are tricky to work with in the format they are in as the VST does not show up like a pedal as in some DAW programs. I also have unsuccessfully tried to add new VST's to the program and for some reason it is not working. Even after reading all the directions and watching you tube, which BTW has great how to vids all over it, here are some to take you down the rabbit hole. Don't forget to download the instruction PDF its really a good one.
HAVE FUN!
Thanks Beamer I'll spend some time w these resources soon!
