Topic: FL Studio 12 Producer Edition (Fruity Loops)

My son asked for this for Christmas, (Grandma is buying it for him) He wants to create beats (who knew, not the drummer, but my older son who plays guitar).  I looked into it and its got great reviews and a ton of vids on You Tube to learn from.  My Neighbor  (Joe, who I showed you his vid link and played guitar with) uses this for his main workstation also.

Has anyone else used FL Studio?

He is also getting a Behringer C1U usb mic, shock mount holder, pop screen and  some desk top mic stands. (they look a little small in the box, so if it doesn't work Ill use them for  micing (sp) speakers and get him one that looks like a desk lamp he can clamp on his desk.

His birthday is a few days later,  So I found a great deal on a midi keyboard controller  that a lot of ppl have given good reviews on for use with FL.

If he gets board with all this, the bonus is I can play with it too!

I haven't, but I've read a lot of good stuff about it in the past!  smile  Sounds like your son has good taste and has either done is research, or is smart enough to trust another good musician (and know the difference)!  Make sure you give us a review after the holidays!

Re: FL Studio 12 Producer Edition (Fruity Loops)

It's probably the most used sequencer in existence for EDM - to the degree that there is a small army of annoying people creating stuff with it that have no idea what they're doing.  big_smile

If you want to record, it's the wrong tool, though.   Can't beat it for simplicity, which is also it's primary drawback.  If he wants a more full featured DAW with excellent sequencing capabilities, look into Propellerhead's Reason.  It will do everything pretty well, and it's MIDI capabilities are top-notch.

Jerome -- From what I have read they have upgraded many of the features you speak about.  I also looked up on you tube track assignments and how to record the guitar into it.  For now its all bought and paid for, so if he truly gets into it deep, we can upgrade then.  I still have Reaper on the puter, and still cant figure it out LOL. So for me, FL is still a step up from Audacity.

Amy -- WILL DO big_smile  ( He actually found FL with a buddy in TX and they played around with it.)

Re: FL Studio 12 Producer Edition (Fruity Loops)

Yeah it's not the good Ol' Fruity Loops it once was, but a more fully functional iteration and getting up into the realm of a mature DAW.  Like Scott said a big step up from Audacity.

Things that are also a step up from Audacity.  big_smile

I'm not knocking FL Studio.  Like I said, I own a copy and enjoy it.  It's just not ideal for live audio work.   It was born in house, and it's DNA is all about sequencing.
