Topic: Stick to one song and not switch around?

I have a song book with 3 chords in most songs.  I start off my practice session by trying to play each song as well as I can, them move to the next.  Should I stick with one song until; I have it down pat?  I would like to make the best of my time.  Thanks

Re: Stick to one song and not switch around?

There are different feelings on this one. I do much the same as you.  I go through many songs each day.  But, if there is a particular song I am trying to learn, I usually play it over and over many times.  We are each different in out learning abilities.  Which ever way you are more comfortable with.  You will get lots of different opinions on this.  Anyway, good luck to you.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Stick to one song and not switch around?

I like to bounce around. If I stick with one song too long it gets boring and I get frustrated if I'm not getting something down. I actually warm up with a few scales/stretching exercises then I start off with the Alphabet song and Happy Birthday.

Glad to hear that you're making progress. Keep it up!!!!!!

Re: Stick to one song and not switch around?

I personally find that one tune leads to another. With a resource like chordie though, it takes a lot of willpower to not be flicking through endless reams of song tabs that are available and concentrate on whatever you are doing. So recently I have started printing tabs and setting them up in groups so that I can practice a few at a time. Good Luck, hope this helps.

Boing boing boing.  That's me bouncing around.  I can't do one song for more than about three times through.

Re: Stick to one song and not switch around?

If there is a particular chord change I am struggling with (like the b7 - seemed to take forever), I might play the song or passage containing the change over and over - other than that, like Zurf, about 3 times through a song is max for me for sure. Skip around the old song book - amazingly, after time even those songs that used to give you fits will all of a sudden become easily playable. That's Progress!

Rule No. 1 - If it sounds good - it is good!

People are different on this.  I'm a "57 times until it comes out right" guy.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: Stick to one song and not switch around?

Tiggers like bouncing... and so do I... usually... but sometimes its: Song A, B, A, C, A, D, A, E, F, A, A...

just do what makes you happy... and remember to play "Let me entertain you"... always gives me fun, and it's perfect to rise alll spirits...

Cheers,
