Topic: Collabs

I'm sure this has been covered here before but I haven't been successful at finding previous discussions. Essentially I want to collaborate with others in song. I see such a project starting out with a .wav file to push the idea through, then others contributing with their own .wav files which in turn would become separate tracks. Finally all .wav files would be gathered and mixed to the final version of said song/project.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the logistics of such a project. Wav files can be quite large... perhaps beyond limitations of email services. And if the project includes video, the problem of large becomes even greater concern. So there needs to be a way, a place to collect and distribute files from and to all contributors.

I could really use some help on this one... people with experience and know-how in the art of collaboration without borders. Any and all ideas welcome. Thoughts?

Live to love, love to live.

Re: Collabs

actually, if you go into the recording section... you'll find TONS of info!  The Stickies will help you find people interested in collaborating.  The best way we've found to share files is to either minimize tracks down into mp3's (and use a service like gmail that will allow bigger files than most ISP's) or to use a free service like windows cloud to share files online.  Most people also will not volunteer to collab with you, however, if you contact people from the list ... you'll generally get a good response (so it helps to be on Chordie a little bit and get to "know" people to figure out who you might like to try to work with across the internet).

BEST WISHES!!  it's a challenge to do an online collab, but it sure is fun at the same time!

Re: Collabs

It sounds like what BaldGuitar Dude suggested some time back.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Collabs

Three years ago I organised a collaboration for a song called "Wrapped in Happiness" and afterwards I wrote the longest post I have ever written describing the ups and downs of the project. I hope it might help: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=9844
