Topic: Strings

I recently changed to using light strings from always having used extra lights and i am surprised at how much better they sound. I think i will stick to lights now. They are Ernie Ball lights.Never tried Ernie Ball before either.

Re: Strings

Big difference.

I haven't tried Ernie Ball either.  Thanks for the recommendation.

Re: Strings

Generally speaking using heavier strings will give you better sound or tone. It's all about what you like . Though, There are some guitars that you should not go to heavy on. Everyday is a learning experience. That's what's great about music all those sweet surprises along the way.

Re: Strings

If you can handle medium lighhts later on, give them a try.  It will sound even sweeter.

Re: Strings

I put the heaviest strings I can find on all my guitars.  They sound better, IMO.  On electrics this makes sense (more mass through the magnetic field = more output).  No idea why it's true for acoustics, though.

My fingers hate me, but they'll get over it.  smile

Re: Strings

My guitars were made for heavier strings and I tried mediums on them but there is something that I didn't like about them, so I changed back to medium lights and I really like them.  It really had nothing to do with my fingers, I don't think.

I started using gnarly strings after reading an interview with SRV where he said "The best thing you can do to improve your tone is to use fat strings."

So I tried it, and agree with his assessment.

Re: Strings

Maybe i'll go on to try medium lights then one day, thanx everyone.

Re: Strings

Crazy, I just bought the same strings! Love em, too. My guitar's a 70s model epiphone and the local guitar shop owner said I need light strings. He was so right. I tried heavier, but I thought they sounded muted - just for my guitar. That's when I switched to Ernie Ball Light.
