Topic: Tube Pre Amp

There are discussions on the net that the 12AX7 tubes in most preamps are inferior and should be replaced with a better brand of tube.I am looking for a warm sounding vocal/instrument two channel preamp. I plan to purchase a PreSonus DP two channel Preamp. Any comments or recommendations or is there any truth to the word on the net.

I find that there are occasionally nuances that I will pick up from set to set. Here are The only two times I've noticed a "wow" in a tube change:

1. A friend in radio got hooked up with a collection of really old tubes....50 years +. All russian. I put a couple in my Deville and wow.
2. I once switched out 12at7s for 12ax7s. This is when I was playing jazz. Again, wow.

How do you describe "WOW" ?  I am looking for a more softer, mellow, woodsie tone.  Something on
the other end  of bright if you know what I mean.  My vocals are soft.
