Topic: UPDATE on Whoops(or I may have really done it this time)

Back from meeting with the hand surgeon and found out what I expected to hear. I severed the flexor tendon in my index finger. So off to surgery on Thursday and have my finger splinted for at least two weeks. Then start rehab to regain motion. It appears as if I will never recover full use of it but that remains to be seen. If not, then that gives me a perfect excuse for a new guitar and I'll attempt to learn how to play lefthanded. The knowledge is there, just needs to be applied in a different way. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers      Butch

I guess I must'a missed something - what happened bswyers? Sorry to hear that you may be down to only 1 index finger as that finger (one each hand) is so important and brave. Hope everything goes wellwith the surgury and the following rehab. Keep us informed.

NELA, for a quick rehash I slipped installing a steel roof on Friday(the 16th) and lacerated my index and middle fingers on my left hand. 18 stitches total. As I am already down to three working fingers on that hand due to a prior accident, losing another will make playing with my left pretty hard. So it's a waiting game to see how it works out

butch do not take thier word as the end,I was in a bad motercycle wreck in the 1970's and did alot of damage to my fingers, they told me the same and I can still play guitar,I started flex my fingers before they gave me thier "blessing". That was three fingers almost down to the bone.

They can fix it, that's a good thing. Hopefully with rehab you can get full motion back. It might take awhile but it is possible. What rehab can be better than playing guitar. It's rare to not bend your finger while playing. Maybe you should ask them about that during rehab.

Best of luck Butch!!!!! We are hoping for the best.

Re: UPDATE on Whoops(or I may have really done it this time)

Well, let's try to hope for the best.  They have to give you a worst case and best case scenario don't they?   Is there any possibility of enough range of motion to play?  I'm happy to hear how positive you are about being capable of switching to left handed playing Butch.  It's not a great way to get a new guitar though.  wink  Take care and best wishes on Thursday!!!!

I guess I missed your prior post, Butch. Sure hope everything goes well and you get over this very quickly. I am assuming this is your chording hand and not your picking / struming hand. If this is correct, rather that going over to the lefty side why not try slide guitar. You could go for a good steel guitar or a dobro and just keep on going. Regardless, we are all pulling for you.
