Topic: "Come Away"

Here is a short & sweet little song of love. Will record it soon for posting to the Friends of Chordie page at MySpace. I'm also considering adding a bridge toward the end, but it seems 'done' as it is?

In my imagination, I hear Emmylou Harris harmonizing on the chorus (Hey - a guy can dream, can't he?).

Come AwayJames McCormick, March 29, 2007

3/4 time, a lullaby waltz

There's a [D]fog in the air and a [G]chill in the room

And we're [D]feeling alone and so [A]cold . . .

What's [D]happened to us?Where [G]did we go wrong?

This [D]mess is a [A]shame to be-[D]hold . . .

Come a-[G]way with me, Love.Come a-[D]way, come away

[D]Come with me Darlin', a-[A]way . . .

The [D]fog and the chill can [G]be in the past

Come a-[D]way, come a-[A]way, come a-[D]way

There's [D]so much needs sayin' but it's [G]so hard to speak

This [D]silence is screaming at [A]me . . .

Just [D]give me a glimmer, just [G]one little sign

I'm as [D]willing as [A]willing can [D]be

Come a-[G]way with me, Love.Come a-[D]way, come away

[D]Come with me Darlin', a-[A]way . . .

The [D]silence can end with [G]one tender sign

Come a-[D]way, come a-[A]way, come a-[D]way

The Am-[D]brosia of Love is so [G]fragrant and sweet

I de-[D]sire to share it with [A]you . . .

Though our [D]flagons are dry, we can [G]fill them once more

To-[D]gether we'll [A]work this thing [D]through

Come a-[G]way with me, Love.Come a-[D]way, come away

[D]Come with me Darlin', a-[A]way . . .

Am-[D]brosia awaits our [G]tender caress

Come a-[D]way, come a-[A]way, come a-[D]way

I tried this just after playing glamore and glory, which I liked a lot and that I think is a bit better than this one. But still a good song.

Re: "Come Away"

Thanks for the feedback, gentlemen! This little song is so sweet and simple - I am very fond of it and hope to do it justice when I record it this weekend.

Still wish that Emmylou Harris was my neighbor, so that she could harmonize on the chorus - I might even let her sing a verse!

James Emmy-Lou Harris is great.Check her out on The Bands

"Last Waltz" video. She does the song "Evangelene".She's a little younger and is awesome.

Have a good one...Badeye.

Re: "Come Away"

Ouch! I just noticed that chords originally posted in "Come Away" were wrong - all the C's should have been G's. It's a 3-chord waltz: D, G, & A are the only chords needed.

Have made the necessary changes - sorry for the errors. James

Re: "Come Away"

like the lyrics in this song, tried to play it and in my head in sounded like it had a soft country feel, but then i do tend to sing in that way i think.anyway i enjoyed having a go at it.d x

Re: "Come Away"

I thought it was good the way it was. It does play much smoother this way.

Re: "Come Away"

Well James,

You are getting to be quite the recording artiste these days. Having listened to "Come Away" at http://www.myspace.com/friendsofchordie I have to say it is a delightful number and the guitar goes well with the autoharp.

I am not as pretty as Emmylou but I did my best and I sang the harmony in the chorus for you.

"Do, or do not; there is no try"

Re: "Come Away"

Thank you for the kind words, Roger. This concept may seem obvious to everyone else, but I finally figured out why I was so 'mic shy' - I was trying to sing 'at or into' the mike rather than sing 'through' the mike.

Having that simple realization has really helped. Now, I try to forget the microphone is even there and project my voice to a point in space well beyond the device - just like I would normally be singing without that thing stuck up into my face.

Still haven't heard from Emmylou Harris - - -

Her recent collaboration with Mark Knopfler contains some truly stunning songs performed by accomplished troubabdors.
