Re: NFL Fans

Hey, I hung with the Patriots thru all the years of futility.   Thats what makes a true fan.   You just shrug your shoulders, enjoy the good times and wade thru the muck of the bad.   Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and get pleasantly shocked when it all comes together.

And I was shocked when the Pat's won their first Super Bowl.

Indeed, I stuck with the Red Sox for all the frustrations they heaped upon us.  <grin>

I just keep it in perspective, it's fun and entertaining when they win, not the end of the world when they lose.

Re: NFL Fans

Actually, I'm finding very amusing the soap opera of the Minnesota Vikings and whats going to happen when they play the Patriots this weekend.  Will the "Messiah" Favre arise again to lead his team to the promised land.  Will the poor coach get a backbone and actually coach the team instead of deferring to the "ol' gunslinger", AGAIN.  Is the Viking team solidarity falling apart faster then a biscuit in a torrential rainstorm.............

Stay tuned, all will be revealed SUNDAY!!  (we hope....this drama and endless news coverage of Saint Brett is making my brain hurt.)  tongue

Re: NFL Fans

My Saints didn't really want the ball this week so they let the Browns have it four times.
Here in Alabama, Auburn is undefeated and number one and Alabama with one loss is in the top ten. This has happened before - not a good thing.
Our state is fiercely divided. People are getting hostile. There will be blood in the streets before this season shakes out. Fans are so ugly I refuse to attend any games. I prefer to listen to them over the radio on my sail boat.

Re: NFL Fans

Being a Brit I don't really understand american football but I have just sat down in front of the TV with a coffee to watch the Bronco's vs 49er's at Wembley Stadium.  At the start what happens?  Michelle Wiiliams sings Star Spangled Banner and then Guitar god Jeff Beck makes a total pratt out of himself playing the UK national anthem like a chimp with webbed fingers.  Maybe he should have given Michelle the guitar and chanced she would make a better job.  I hope the game is better.

Now you need a winning streak, fingers crossed.   The Pats are looking good.

Re: NFL Fans

I don't understand why 2 perfectly good touchdowns were disallowed they seemed OK to me.  And I beg to differ on Jeff Beck's effort.  He is so much better than that.  He looked like he had turned up for the pay day and wasn't really bothered about how he sounded.  Even the commentator said he should have stuck to Hi Ho Silver Lining.

Re: NFL Fans

Well Jerry Jones fired Wade Phillips today and named Jason Garrett Interim Head Coach, people he's concidering is John Gruden, likely he'll stay in broadcasting according to ESPN, John Fox from Carolina, and Bill Cowher who also according to ESPN is not likely to take the job because he will want more power over the team than Jerry is willing to let him have. We'll see what happens.

Re: NFL Fans

He should stick with Jason Garret.  Give him a chance to prove he's got head coaching mettle.  Cause if he doesn't, somebody else will.   Jerry needs to step back and let the coach COACH and handle his own players.  Otherwise, he's going tom wind up like Al Davis of the last few years in Oakland.

Yeah, I know the raiders are doing decent now, but, thats only because they have a coach who the players believe in and like.  And it seems that Al has stepped back a bit and letting Cable run the team.    Cable has proven that he can coach.  Garret deserves the same opportunity without an owner being a monkey on his back.

Re: NFL Fans

I think if he were smart he would go and beg mike holmgren or bill purcells for a coach. They both have great records.the cowboys need someone to lead them.

Parcells has been there, tried that and said "I'm outta here".  Holmgren has total control in Cleveland.   They want nothing to do with Jerry Jones.

Re: NFL Fans

Congrats Jeff ( topdown) to the N.C. State Wolfpack !!!  It looks like we're gonna have a rematch between the " overrated" VIRGINIA TECH Hokies for the ACC crown.

It's fun when 2 dudes (such as you and I) can talk football without deflecting inner insecurities and WEAKLY attempting to question others' knowledge of subjective topics (as unspecified LUNKHEADS have, and shall always do). I guess SOME people need to degrade others to feel better about their own skits in life (whatever floats the boats ????). Oh well, I digress....

If the second game ( NC State vs. Va Tech)is anything like the first meeting this season, we're gonna be in for a real treat....

All the best to you and yours,

SouthPaw41L

Give everything but up.

Re: NFL Fans

Thanks Toney - It was an exciting game yesterday and I was happy to watch the ending along with Mrs. Guitarpix who is a huge UNC fan. smile

No so fast on the rematch though - We still have to beat Maryland next week and have not had much success recently playing at their place. Add to that we are once again ranked and every time that has happened this year, we went out and stunk it up the next game. It seems rankings are the kiss of death to this team.
