From the homer perspective, the Huskies. I'm not claiming them to be any kind of great team, like the VT crowd does.   Playing in the PAC-10 is hard enough as it is.     Few teams ever go undefeated in the PAC-10 during regular season play.  The conference schedule is too tough.   Unlike the ACC where teams are over rated (see Tech, Virginia) even a bad PAC-10 team can beat you on any given Saturday.  See a young Washington team taking down USC last week.   Ooops.

From a who I'm pulling for this year, Oregon.   Ohio State has a brutal schedule coming up.   Oregon's isn't much easier, but if they can win over USC and Arizona, there's no reason they shouldn't play in the championship game.  I don't see Alabama getting beat.

And none of that changes the fact that VA Tech is one of the most consistently over rated teams in the NCAA.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: NFL Fans

Which is the top all-time NCAA college football national championship conference?

Listed below is the order of conferences from 1936 to present with the number of college football national championships in parentheses.

    * SEC -- (17)

    * Big 12 – (16)

    * Big Ten -- (13)

    * ACC -- (9)

    * Pac-10 -- (4)

    * Big East -- (3)

Looks like the ACC has won 9 to the mighty PAC 10's 4. The bottom 4 of the PAC 10 is like a group of Duke's - I'd love to play in that conference.

Sorry Man - Heck - You guys had our number last year - I've got no reason to dis 'em.

It's funny the difference a year can make - that loss to the Dookies was about the low in my 30 years of being a State fan. But this year I am fired up again!! Resiliency - That's something you learn pulling for the Wolfpack! big_smile

Re: NFL Fans

Ok Topdown

  I see you did some great research there so I decided I'd do a little

Duke BlueDevils

17 Conference Titles
61 All American's
10 ACC Players of the year
11 College Football Hall Of Famers
3 NFL Hall of Famers

The most famous Duke football season came in 1938, when Wallace Wade was head coach and the "Iron Dukes" were born. Wade shocked the college football world by leaving Alabama for Duke in 1930, later rationalizing the move by saying that Duke shared his belief that a school should provide its athletes with a strong academic background. Wade's success at Alabama (three national championships) translated well to Duke's program, most notably in 1938, when his "Iron Dukes" went unscored upon the entire regular season. In fact, that Duke team is one of three in college football history to have gone undefeated, unscored upon, and untied in the regular season.[citation needed] Duke reached their first Rose Bowl appearance, where they lost 7-3 when USC scored a touchdown in the final minute of the game on a pass from a second string quarterback to a third string tight end. Wade's Blue Devils lost another Rose Bowl to Oregon State in 1942, this one held at Duke's home stadium in Durham, North Carolina due to Pearl Harbor. Wade's achievements placed him in the Hall of Fame.

I got ya Topdown were still good, I'm sure I'm gonna take a few hits for the 1930's thing, being that it's been so long, but thats ok, and Yes NC State is off to a great start. I've got tickets to the Midnite Madness event this year, looking forward to that.

I'm not sure where you got your PAC-10 numbers, but five teams in the PAC-10 have held titles in that time frame.  Washington, USC, UCLA, Cal, and Stanford.

If you subtract out Miami and Florida State, which didn't join the ACC until recently, that number drops to somewhere around 2 ACC teams ever holding a national title.  Georgia Tech and Clemson.

That VA Tech left the Big East (a.k.a.  The Big Least) to join the ACC, and considered it a step up highlights my point even more.  They went from beating football juggernauts like Cincinnati and UConn to Duke and NC State.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: NFL Fans

Sorry Toney, no offense meant.... but we Northwesterners are kinda wishy-washy when it comes to College Ball.  I like the Huskies, and am also rooting for the Oregon Ducks for another shot at the Rose Bowl this year.  But (and it's a big one) I am a Beaver Alumni and although I might get run out of town on a rail after a little tar and feathers for even hoping our arch nemesis gets that chance again this season.... if it happens it would be a good thing in my book.

And none of that changes the fact that VA Tech is one of the most consistently over rated teams in the NCAA.

So let's get this straight; You like Washington but you "pull" for Oregon......????..uhhmm until another wacko team is the front runner ( exclude Ohio State and Alabama) then THAT team will be the one you "pull" for ? .... Dude you're not a football fan,you're an instigator of conflict.

That about sums it up.  Washington is the home town team.  They've struggled over the last couple of seasons, and aren't going to be competitive at a championship level for at least another two.  They could still beat half the teams in the ACC pretty much any time, though (James Madison!  Ha!).   But as a fan of PAC-10 football, Oregon is the best chance to take another national title (bringing the PAC-10 percentage to 60%).   I pull for the PAC-10 team over whatever opponent  they play.

The difference is I don't pretend that a bad Washington team is anything other than bad, just like I don't pretend that an over rated VA Tech team is anything other than over rated.  That is born out by their record against ranked teams, and their generally weak strength of schedule, due to playing in a generally weak league.

I know that you, not really knowing much about football, can't disambiguate your fandom from reality, but that's common amongst fair weather fans.  My team is #1!!!  Lawlz!

I don't fault you for it.  It's kind of quaint.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: NFL Fans

so this forum has nothing to do with the nfl? all i'm seeing is messages about pac-10 and ACC

college football is a joke and will continue to be a joke until there's a playoff and an undisputed national champion

until that  happens all the national championship and it’s fancy crystal ball will be is a glorified homecoming king crown

It’s a freaking’ popularity contest and that’s it

It’s watched because it’s on TV and it’s a nice warm-up for Sundays

I’ve started to get into following it this season because of the fact that the players might get drunk and do stupid stuff, exposing themselves and fool around with sorority girls

But at least they don’t make millions being jerk offs like they do in the pros

And they are just dumb college kids being dumb college kids

Could someone please direct me to a forum for NFL fans and people that want to talk football

Or perhaps a baseball forum?

So you come to a music forum and complain that a sports related post got a little off topic? Welcome to chordie - that type of thing is pretty common around here and no one really gets uptight about it.

There are a bunch of sports related forums out there to choose from:

Re: NFL Fans

I signed up on ESPN sometime ago, but, it's such a pain to find things there.  So I rarely, if ever go there.  But, if you need sports or a place to comment and have the attention span to weed thru a lot of dreck, then got to ESPN and have fun.

This is chordie, music is the main theme here, all else is fun and frivolity and friendship.  Sort of like a family friendly pub and/or coffee house.  We banter, bicker and exchange ideas.

Some days we're the windshield and some days we're the bug. I'm having a bug week.
Alabama got beat, my Saints gave their game away with turnovers, my son, Jamie's Cowboys also got beat and he won't talk to anybody when that happens. It is sooo quiet around here.
I'm going to bed early and hope for dreams of better days.

Re: NFL Fans

I've been a Cowboys fan for over 35 years and never have I seen a team with so much talent playing at such a low level. The blame falls solely on the coaching. I'd love to see how good we could be with the passion Singletary brings to the game. Or  Bill Cowher... Are you watching? JJ needs you and he's got plenty of $. Phillips and Garrett have got to go!

At least my 'Canes are 2-0! It's great to watch kids with with hustle and passion.

Yeah Toots I thought about you after Alabama got beat and then again after the Saints were beaten. I knew you weren't going to be happy with all that happening. As I'm writing this my 49ers just scored on their opening drive so thats good.

Topdown, glad to see your Wolfpack back on track with their win, I'm not sure who they have next but good luck.
