Me too. I used to go to the games when they fans were wearing bags on their head.

2 and 14 seems like a lifetime ago

I remember 1 and 15 around 1970 or so.  Their unofficial nickname was the "Patsies".
So bad for so long.  Then they got a good owner.  World of difference.

Re: NFL Fans

Good weekend for Football around here....  Been raining for three days straight!

Sorry Cam, as you predicted with the support of Jerome, Alabama TRASHED Duke 62 to 13.

We had two NCAA games within easy driving distance here yesterday.  Oregon State vs Portland State (cross-conference) which is almost within walking distance (but not).... Portland might just as well saved the fuel and not bothered, lost 69-0. U of Oregon is only 45 miles South, and beat Louisiana 35-28.  Traffic was a mess!  A friend went up to Portland yesterday and it took 6 hours round trip & it's only 85 miles each way!

My Seahawks are in Denver this afternoon, so we'll see.... only a couple hours to kickoff.

I used to support the Rams when they were still in LA, then "adopted" Kansas City, but support my Northern Neighbors these days.

Forget about Tuesday morning, that loss took til Sunday to get over.  What a disappointment. Good run defense was the only positive.  Today will be another test against Beli-cheat and the Pats.

And my worst nightmare, the Dolphins are 2-0 already.  Waaahhhhh

Do what's right. If you have to think about it, it's probably wrong.

Oh get over it already.  That was a couple of years ago.  tongue  And your jets never did such a thing.....

Seriously:  It's a game of oneupmanship and your precious jeeeeeeets are a reality tv show.  Joe Namath has got a ring and he talked smack and delivered.  When the current Jets cash the checks they are writing I will accept them as the better team then the Pats.  If "Sexy Rexy" wins a Super Bowl I will apologize.

As for "Beli-cheat", yeah he got caught, but only because "mangenius" couldn't pull it off!

Re: NFL Fans

Sad day in Seattle....  The Seahawks were humbled by Denver.  So much for a good start this year 1-1-0.  San Diego this coming weekend, and darn it! It's supposed to be sunny, so those Southern Californians don't have to play in the wet & cold.

Re: NFL Fans

Well my 49er's gave the Saints all they wanted last night, if the 9ers could clean up the self made mistakes maybe we can start winning. It came down to a last second field goal but we had our oppurtunities to win it, lost the ball 3 times inside the Saint's 30. Alex Smith finally showed promise last night however so thats a good sign.

Credit when credit is due. Kudos to the Jets. Patriots D made Sanchez look like an NFL QB. I'm not sure if he's coming around or if the Pats D is just that bad. We'll see. As for the Jets going to the Super Bowl...the ought to concentrate on making the playoffs first. They won 9 games last year during the reguar season.
They've annointed themselves contenders...great defense but I'm not so sure I'd be running my mouth.

Pats defence was bad, I stoped watching in the fourth quarter, had enough. ahh there is always next week.
After watching pre game, and games before the pats and jets the wifey got after me that I was watching way too much football, she's probably right.

Re: NFL Fans

I stopped watching in the third quarter, got a glass of wine, picked up the guitar and strummed away for a bit.  It looks like the Patsies are back. As for the Jets, lets see, top receiver, Braylon Edwards arrested for DUI with a blood level of 1.6.   Revis out with a hammy.   The Jets better be careful, they don't look like a team that can cash that Super Bowl check promise.

No problem staying up for this Monday night game.
Defending champs get the best game from each opponent. Forty niners looked scary good. Only their mistakes brought them down.

Remember, fellow Chordians that I am not a Johnny Come Lately Jet fan. I am a professional when it comes down to knowing how to suffer better than most.  40 years of hope, excitement, and promises to be followed by certain heartbreak makes for a very humble and "non-cocky" fan.

We had to endure Shula's mud bowl in the 82 AFC Championship game, with 3 INT's by AJ Duhe.  Then the following year Ken O'Brien being drafted before Dan Marino, who consistently whipped our asses, including the infamous fake spike touchdown.  Losing to Denver in 99 AFC Championship, Missed FG's by Doug Brien in the playoffs against the Steelers....there's countless more.

Rex has made it fun this year, but every team will be gunning for them.  This week against the Fins promises to be a war, as was last year's MNF game which went down to the last minute.  Two good defenses, average at best offenses, I would bet the under myself.

Bottom line? With a glass of wine or a cold beer, some tasty snacks and a big screen TV, what's better than a Sunday afternoon and football?  And a small suggestion for Badeye, you need to watch more "chick flix" with the wifey on Saturday nights... it pays off big on sundays!

I would not presume to advise Badeye or yourself, sir, BUT, if I have to endure a chick flick with the good woman it had better pay off on Saturday night, too.

That sounds like the Patriots from 1960 until 2001.  The Jets did make history as the first AFL team to win a Super Bowl in the greatest upset in Super Bowl History.

Speaking of college ball,  two weeks ago I was ranting to the poor guy in Radio Shack as Boise State took apart Virgina Tech.  The announcers were shocked, SHOCKED!!! that Boise was handling VT as well as they were.  I was griping that VT was consistently the most over rated team in the NCAA, and no one west of the Appalachians was shocked by it at all.

Then this week, VT went and got thrashed by James Madison!  Bwahahahahahahah!!!!

Made my day.

Consistently over rated ? hmmmm

2004- 10 wins 3 losses
2005- 11wins  2 losses
2006- 10 wins 3 losses
2007- 11 wins 3 losses
2008- 10 wins 4 losses
2009- 10 wins 3 losses

You got the consistent part right.........

How many other teams in the NCAA have 10 + wins, every season, over the past 6 seasons? Not too many huh?

Check their schedule strength.  They play in a generally weak division, and then they pick generally weak out of division teams.   Their highly hyped strength of schedule this year has resulted in predictable results.  The ACC this year is 0-fer against ranked opponents.    They're 14-43 against ranked opponents since they expanded.

Being the best team in an incredibly weak division doesn't make you a good football team. It makes you an over rated football team.  Consistently beating Duke and Baylor isn't even remotely impressive.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: NFL Fans

Since 1892;
Va. Tech and Baylor have never played, not once. And the Hokies have played Duke 17 times in this time span. Duke won 7 of the meetings, Va Tech won 10. (ahem..)

The bottom line in college football is victories and bowl games. Since 1993 Va. Tech has never missed a bowl game. Correct me if I'm wrong but that'd be 17 straight seasons going to a bowl game. This feat is 2nd only to Florida State ( 27 straight ).... Hmmm?

Next issue, there is no denying, even by the "eternal arguing 'till blue in the face one that shall remain nameless ( hehe..)" here on Chordie that Virginia Tech is one of the top college football programs in the nation andw has been for quite some time. There are two teams that have won ten games or more in the past 6 seasons, one one which is Texas(9 times) and the other is Virginia Tech ( 6 times). The final score on the scoreboard is indisputable, period. And this poster will be the first to admit that the team I follow, always have always will, has been extremely lucky on numerous occasions ( especially this past week against a great N.C. State football team, much respect !!!) but a win is a win and over the past 17 seasons there ain't too many teams that can claim to have more wins than Va Tech.

Okay,so finally, enough about this poster and his passion for Va. Tech football !!!! ( haha, it's a family thing) I've been trapped and briefly maddened( not really..) by the infamous arguing machine here on Chordie( some things/people never change, it all good though,ahem...) but it's been fun and enlightening doing a little research between feedings, naps, yard work, 2 guitar lessons, and marinating some chicken for the grill tonight.

So do tell jerome.oniel, who is "your" NCAA team ?

ps... if you're ever in a Blacksburg, VA  area Radio Shack you might wanna consider a slightly different approach to the employees...(:J)

Give everything but up.

They outplayed the saints and barely got beat in the last min the same with the falcons today. I thinkthey will be an awsome team when they stop making stuped mistakes, right now they seem to be there own worst enimies.. They have alot of great talent.

Re: NFL Fans

Va Tech has a losing record in bowl games, too.   The only team of note they've beaten was Texas.   Alabama was off the year they lost, only going 7-4.   They managed to win against noted football juggernauts North Carolina State and Indiana.  Woo.

I'm a Pac-10 guy.  That's the league that usually has three or four  ranked teams in it, and half the teams have held a national championship at one time or another.  I know the ACC had to add Florida State to it's ranks to get a championship caliber team, but other than that, any teams have a national championship claim?

No?

Although it was before joining the ACC, I believe the University of Miami have won a few (5!) National Championships. I believe Clemson won one in 1981. Going back further there was Maryland in 1953. So yea, I'd say there is more to the conference than FSU.

Don't forget Georgia Tech was Co Champs one year, Though I will agree The ACC is kinda weak in football overall compared to other Conference's.
We are more of a basketball conference

Don't look now but the Kansas City Chiefs are the only unbeaten team in the NFL.
