Topic: New Songs Up

I have just posted two new songs on Myspace - click on the Website link to the left to have a listen. I'll warn you in advance that the recording could be much better, but time is of a premium at the minute and I have more new songs to prep for upload.

They are

"Nobody, but Nobody" - which was first posted as a poem  at http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14370 .

And

"If I Could Sleep" -  first posted at http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=13964 .

Re: New Songs Up

Hi Stransongs,

2 completely different sounds there. You have a soft voice godbless you.

Nobody but Nobody" guitar immediately reminded me of the planxty sound years ago. Donal Lunny came to mind.

Your lyrics are so good either way. Thanks for sharing your songs and poems.

Re: New Songs Up

Hey Stran,
These are great songs.  I like "Nobody" as a poem too.
I got started writing songs by converting my short stories to songs.
I am starting to convert some of my songs to poems and some of my poems to songs now.
You seem to be very good at it.  So, I'm gonna keep an eye on you.  cool

Re: New Songs Up

Very nice Stransongs... your have a very soft voice and it goes well with your music!

Re: New Songs Up

Hey Stransongs, Nice job! This song has that "different" feel to it. I think I can hear the phrygian mode
over those chords? That's what came to mind.              Mike

Re: New Songs Up

Hi,

Thanks everyone for the comments - I really appreciate them

Lena, funny I was watching a documentary on Planxty  on YouTube just yesterday. Yes the voice is soft when it wants to be. and can go all over the place - strange how it always seems better in the car !

Daddy - cheers, thanks for the listen. I keep watchin out for your stuff.

Jody, thanks for that, hope the voice sorts itself. the songwritin thing just seems to find it's own way through. I often wonder how many I've missed by being somewhere without a guitar and not being able to jot anything down.

Mekids, Thanks for the compliment.

Papa, I see what you mean. I hadn't been conscious of it. I tend to work out a melody to fit the words and then try to find the key notes in chords. That way I end up with obscure voicings that I only know what chord it is by looking it up ( thank goodness for Chord Name). I guess the sound is quite jazzy, with a touch of spanish - which would fit with the phrygian.
