I'm not sure I've posted this or not. This is about the brave men who built the skyscrapers in the nineteen twenties. They came frome everywhere to find work gave their lives unoticed. I have music for this and will record sometime shortly. Cant believe I wrote this a year ago.
Paths of Steel / Lonely in New York m.mcvicker 11/5/2008
I came here from Cobb County, Georgia.
1929
Had this dream of us together.
Your future, tangled up with mine.
So, I hopped a freight, out of Kennesaw,
on a northern line.
And as I ride these rails of steel;
I hope to make you, mine.
These boys and I work just short of heaven.
We gave all our fear away.
Now we walk these paths of steel as
high rise dreamers, I’ve heard some say.
But it’s lonely here in New York City.
I want your green eyes to wake up next to mine.
My stay is long here and it’s a pity.
But, I will remedy this, in time.
So I bought you, a ring of silver;
that I tuck away in my vest pocket.
Right next to a silver strand;
“I Love You†, on a heart shaped locket
Well, high above Manhattan,
as a flock of crows passed while we were working,
an icy chill was everywhere.
We all knew the danger lurking
In an instant, our fate was shared.
When a mighty nor’easter blew in, and then,
ravens, that were passing, became a flock of men.
So I learned to fly, this morning.
The landing didn’t go so well.
I had the bliss of just letting go,
and I never felt a thing.
When I woke up; I was perched, outside your window,
In an empty, hallowed Ash.
You’ll never know me or call me by my name.
Probably think of me as pesky trash.
But then maybe; you will come to love me;
Love me, just the same
And so I think I’ll just stay here… with you
With you ..I’ll let you tame
I have left your silver shinnies;
on your back, porch step.
Silver ring and heart shaped locket
Its all that I have kept
So now, to see what you will do
With so much love; I thought you knew.
Maybe now, you will accept.
and took it from beginning to end.
I would try another.
