Bryan Adams "When You Really Love A Woman" strumming pattern

I tried this song with my own strumming pattern. All I could come up with was : ddd
(First down stroke on the base notes,
the second & third on the higher notes)

It didn't sound very good to me. Can anybody suggest a better strumming pattern for this song? I am not good at finger picking the strings.
