Topic: My first attempt.

Well, here's my first attempt at writing a song. Unfortunately I can't sing and play at the same time yet, so I ask your indulgence if my chords are all over the shop. I basically kinda guessed where they went. Oh yeah, and I hope I've given them the proper names and formatted the thing properly.......and try and excuse my dodgy rhyming as well please.

Re: My first attempt.

Hi moddish,

Well done unfortunately it is too late to get out my guitar and play your song. I shall do that tomorrow and post a comment then. I just thought I would let you know about the formatting. For a first attempt you have done far better than I did, you got it just about right but the first word SONG should be in capital letters and you omitted the final /SONG again it is in capitals and the square brackets. It is these two commands at the start and finish that change the format and put the song in a box. A very minor point, where you have put admin should be your name.

I hope that helps

Re: My first attempt.

Hello moddish - nifty little lyric there.  I'm left pondering the meaning - but that's cool too.  Doesn't it feel great to get that first song out of your system?  Keep 'em coming - the more the merrier.

Playing and singing together takes practice (but doesn't everything).

I took the liberty of correcting the missing codes so that it would format properly in the forum.  You had simply not capitalized SONG at the front and omitted /SONG at the end (can't put the brackets on here or the statements would be interpretted as coding commands).

Folks have had problems with the tricky little codes for posting songs - I shall try to create a set of clearer instructions and post it prominently for all to see.  James

Re: My first attempt.

yep ,echoeing the two other replies.

I like this too, I just tried it very very quietly with it being 11:25pm and the house asleep apart from me.

I was playing it without the A after Em, The way I was playing it the A didnt fit in,lol.

Is the A chord suppose to get played straight after the Em or is there meant to be a space?

ye get some that are cut out for the job and others just get by from pretending

Re: My first attempt.

Hi Moddish,

I have just played your song and I am also very impressed. Like Ken I omitted playing the A chords. I liked it without the A and not knowing where it is placed, and of course not knowing the melody line, I did as they say in the song and 'I Did It My Way'. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

The Am to Em change is a sound that I am particularly fond this is a cracking effort. Well done.

Re: My first attempt.

Thanks for the feedback about formating songs properly, it's appreciated.....maybe my next attempt might work out OK...if there is one!! The feedback about my little song is appreciated as well.

The chord I was looking for is Em/A. Well, it is in the song where I borrowed it from!  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing"> It's basically one finger on the 2nd fret of the D string, playing all strings except the low E.

Think Paul Weller - Wild Wood, the second chord.

Kinda feels weird looking at my awkward attempt formated like a proper song. Hey, does this mean I can put 'Musician' down as my occupation on documents now??   <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

Re: My first attempt.

moddish - Now that you have written one song, you proably have the bug in your ear and will start to hear whisperings of other songs in your brain.  Of course there will be more songs!

Keep your ears and eyes open for ideas - the more you try to craft songs, the better.  James
