Topic: Help me with the "Mystery Machine!" O.O

Ok the subject title was a little bit weird. My guitar teacher(better then him, lol) told me about a machine that (bad english coming up) made a bleeping sound to hold your tact or tempo with. What is it called? He told me but i forgot ^^
