Topic: what do i say & what do i charge

i'm a singer songwriter & would like to know if i was to write a song for an artist or group,or even for someone else for their personal use. what would i need to do other than produce the material? how do i get my work copywrited? & what fee do i get? or do i charge what i like? is there a going rate? I only ask this as i was asked to write a song for someone for their personal reasons & wasn't sure what to say.A bit strange i know. if any one has any advice or info please let me know thanks.

If you are in the US, copyright is given as soon as you write it down.  There is nothing else you need to do.


Charge whatever you can negotiate.  That's contracts.
