In 2003, I met Robert Hunter in Reno at a bar. I did not know who he was. I was playing at an open mic and when I said I was going to play three or four Grateful Dead tunes in a row- jam style- he asked if he could join me. He disappeared for about three minutes and returned with a 12 string Martin guitar. He was staying in the hotel the bar was located in.

I launched in to my version of Ripple and he smiled a big grin and said “I remember the night I wrote that song”. I thought he was full of it, but when we played Mexicali Blues he coached me about how to get a trumpet sound out of the guitar (sliding a d chord shape between second and first fret on the fly). Man, he was rocking it and I almost forgot the words I was so enamored with his playing. When I finished my set, he bought me a beer and introduced himself. Just wow. Told me the backstory to several songs, funny stuff about the Grateful Dead scene. Showed me a few chord tricks for these songs. Down to earth guy, very approachable. Enjoyed that evening and sorta became a GD fan after that. Hope to play many of these tunes with you  at Chordie PA next week, Joe.

Sorry to have missed the jam. I hope Mekids got the message to you-unexpected new roof for the guitar barn. It is done, but glad I don’t do roofing for a living because I would starve. See you next time, team!

Hoping to make it. Just back from Raleigh after playing Friday night with Cowboy Keith, Jetfly2112, and Scopolomine (band=Nine Ball Tight). I think I will arrive before dark Fri nite so as not to drive into the bog......

Count me, Cowboy, Farmer Wes, and Mitter B in like Flynt!

Hey, Uncle Joe- thanks so much for the hospitality this weekend. It was a blast playing with you,  Amy and Jim (“or something like that”), Scott, Jeff, Zurf, Mike and visiting with them and all of the others who turned out. What a great time! As it happens at all of these events, there was a magic 3-4 hours on Saturday in which the song list and performances were well above the bar and the fellowship and food was just an addition to an overall great time!

Looking forward to the next one and exploring a set of VirginiaFest dates in the middle Atlantic near Richmond for sometime in 2018.

Sounds like a good plan - I'm in !  We'll probably need to take turns being the designated driver from Jeff's back to the condo smile

Hey, Dirty Ed- found a small house for 3/15  (Wednesday) through 3/20 (Monday) with two bedrooms and futon couch. If you don't mind a twin bed and sharing a bathroom and kitchen with us guys (me and Cowboy Keith), then $250 would cover each of us. We will put Cowboy on the couch! The house is 1.5 miles from Jeff's and is walkable. Plenty of parking for us, too!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Per Egil. This Chordie thing has made my retired life and guitar playing most enjoyable! The fellowship, friendship, and universal language of shared music has helped bring much fun and new friends my way sine I joined. Bless you and your family on this happy day!

Hi all- I have a version of this from two years ago - recorded only after hearing this at  Chordiestock 2. A little different take on the song... This is my first forsy into the Chordie song of the month. Please be gentle and....Enjoy!

Hey guys- I can get big condos in Vegas through my timeshare, so we would have a cheap but nice place to crash and burn. I am up for it. Like Topdown, I am trying to make the 6/20 NOVA Potomac party and perhaps the late Aug party, though I have a gig in Bar Harbor, Maine in late August- early Sept. Party on, Wayne! party on, Garth!

Hey all.. I am picking up Cowboy Keith Fulp, the drummer, in Raleigh on my way through. Standup bongo set up for him. I am bring Dirty Ed some liquor since I drank all his last year. And some acoustic gee-tars, too. In cases. With strings.

I'll be there. I will start the look for the condo. I have a couple of originals that I will be posting on YouTube soon. And I have a song that should make Dirty Ed proud.....Zurf heard it last night (but we could not get through the verses without laughing....)

Hi Chordians:
I am excited about the upcoming CHORDIESTOCK 2 event in Madeira Beach/Seminole, FL. starting Feb 22. I have added some songs I dug out of the archives to the Chordiestock II songbook - some simple strummers and some rock/blues. I am just getting back into the swing of guitar this year, so any help on any of these would be welcome. Hopefully, there will be some folks who like to jam on some of the rock tunes.

Hi Chordiestock II Attendees- I am driving down from Virginia and will get there Friday 22 Feb and probably leave Monday 25 Feb. I am trying to get a condo near Topdown's condo in Madiera Beach. Anyone need a place to stay - let me know. I am working the timeshare system to see if we can get a 2 or 3 bedroom condo for the week - or at least a few days. I will bring my new Plek'd Epiphone Masterbilt, my 12 string Takamine, and maybe an electric/amp/mike set. Let me know if folks need anything. I will fill the old Lexus up and head south.

Man, with an endorsement like that, Jeff, I better brush up a fresh set! I look forward to seeing you and the other Chordies in February 2014. I am driving down, so I will bring a few extra guitars with me. I am trying to get a condo in the area for the week, so I will advise on that status as it emerges. smile
