Re: The Scalpel and the Axe - not a song, just thoughts (3 replies, posted in Poems)
Two steel and wood contraptions, instruments they are called. They have the same purpose but achieve it in different ways. They are the scalpel and an axe. The scalpel, as the name suggest, is sharp, precise, it’s dimensions obviously measured to sub-millimeter tolerances and the materials finished and polished to sterility. It’s notes are sharp, precise, and clear as a beautiful fall day. A day that is cool and crisp with endless blue sky. Holding the scalpel is intimate and the instrument blends with one’s arms and body. It is connected directly to the brain by fiber optic cables and lossless digital circuitry. Hum, strum, or wince, and the instrument does likewise. Purity of thought and action are rewarded with perfect fidelity. Mistakes likewise. Precision is the watchword and the scalpel delivers perfectly.
The axe, while not blunt, does offer wider tolerances and permits many shades of gray to color its response. It’s tolerance is measured in fractions of inches and its weather is a gray calm day where the lighting is even and perfect and shadows retreat. The axe is made of fine materials but they are allowed to retain much of their original character, texture, color, and scent. They provide delightful tactile stimulation and a cleavage to the fingers, arms, and body that hold it. It’s circuitry is metal and gas and it passes on all the subtleties it can gather to accompany the original intent. Hum, strum, or wince and the instrument does likewise. Purity of thought and action are rewarded with perfect fidelity. Mistakes likewise. Precision is the watchword of and the axe delivers perfectly.
Two instruments. Different styles but both with a perfect interpretation of the player’s thoughts. Two builders, the same goal, both with perfect results.
Well this one you need to careful with those.....

myself.

I see you have already found the Recording section
and met Russ, Jerome and Ark. You have a great
collection of gear listed there and I have to say that
I am rather envious of the Fender 12er...
