Hey zurf,
I'm using VLC media player to slow down music videos. A bit more versatile is "best practise" (free under GNU license). Best practise takes a minute to install and seconds to be able to, to slow down, speed up or change pitch of .wav or mp3 files. Sound quality is not amazing but good enough for practise.
Minor disadvantage: it asks for a CD ROM drive (at least a virtual drive) to work. Don't know why. You don't have to use the drive to plax songs.
You can get it here:

4 posts above zguitar posted a link to a thread @bluegrassmessenger.com. There are the complete lyrics and related ones. And there is detailed information to the history of the song. In an older version there is a verse like this:
"An' I'm jus' frum the country come to town, A too-loo-shaker from my head on down, You may leave, but this will bring you back."
I'm not so familiar with American slang, but could this have a special meaning in the days of the early 1900s? (Similar example: It took me some time to catch the special meaning of "walking the dog" - a song from Rufus Thomas
Hey guys, thank you very much!
This helps a lot.
Especially the hint, that "this" means "money" is the key for me, to understand the last line of each verse and the whole song: You may leave but "this" will bring you back.

Hi dino48,
thanks for your reply!
In the the meantime I googled this @ http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=40621
"Tote-loader shaker seems to have been someone employed in a mill who would ..."
Unfortunately the forum mentioned above is down. So I can't see more than this quote.
The song is from about 1930.
So, any further ideas what it could be?
Thanks in advance for any reply
cheers Helmut
Hi folks,
I'm translation the song "you may leave (but this will bring you back)" from the Memphis Jug Band into German language. One verse is
"I'm satisfied, satisfied,
my tote-loader shaker by my side..."
What ist a tote-loader shaker?
Any help or description would be great.
Cheers Helmut
