Usky and Doug, you have completely avoided what he needs - he cant google this stuff because his internet is bad!!

I would recommend lick library, they do a few artists that you might like! Or try and find a few music stores when you reach dry land! xD

Choridehelper123

Actually I suggested he looked at Lick Library in my comment on 29/07...  wink

Don't be so sure about those lessons Usky.  My teacher is a hack who plays no better than his student.  Of course, I am self-taught...

shymae butty, nice to welcome a fellow welshman, i have tried to educate the other members that we welsh are not english and we dont like being called english, it's all good humoured banter. any time you need a chat give me a call.

ps. i hate tabs. mainly cos i cant work em out.

phill

Shymae Phil butty,

Funny how many colonials refer to the UK as England isn't it? Keep on educating mate and I'll lend a hand. Wales is very definitely a superior country. wink

I'm starting to get a grip on tabs, but it's slow progress. I dare say I'd have done better take a few lessons!

This is a great spot not to feel stupid in! Always lots of help and comments available. Would not be the player I am today ( if I can call myself a player ) without it. Welcome Usky.

Thanks Johnny - nice to meet so many friendly faces here. As the old saying goes, great oaks from little acorns grow... my playing is still at acorn stage, but give it time, give it time. wink

Welcome to Chordie, Usky, from a fellow Brit ( yes, there are a few here)! It's a great place to hang out...

Thanks Norm - I've enjoyed sitting on the sidelines and just reading bits in the forums, but have spent most of my time reading and playing the various songs available.

Usky;  Welcome to Chordie my friend.  Power-tab is a good one which I have used, and it works.  Thanks for the recommendation on TuxGuitar as well, I'm running Ubuntu on my laptop and it might be handy to have a good application for that too.  I'm converting my sheet music to PDF and sticking it in the thing so it can go along to jam sessions.  A lot easier to carry than 450 pages of paper, won't blow away in a breeze, just gotta figure out how to work a mouse with my toes.

Take Care;
Doug

Thanks for the welcome Doug smile

I have to say I'm impressed with TuxGuitar - it's capable of importing both Guitar Pro and Power Tab files so is a useful addition if, like me, you're also a member of Ultimate Guitar. Like you I'm keeping sheet music on a hard drive these days and building up quite a collection. Ever thought of using speech recognition for retrieving files?

I'm surprised justinguitar doesn't have them available?  His online stuff is about as good as it gets, and highly recommended by many here on Chordie.

Doug

I stumbled across Justin on You Tube - very good he is too. He offers private lessons and DVDs on his personal site (http://www.justinguitar.com/index.php). smile

Thanks for the welcome folks - so it seems (with a few exceptions naturally) I've accidentally dropped in to a fellow 'Old Fart' community here! big_smile

I'll try not to bore you all too much with my inane drivel. wink

Hi all, just thought I'd post a quick hello as a new user of this fine site. My thanks to all those who've contributed tabs/chord patterns for the likes of me to pinch. wink

As it goes I'm not new to guitar playing, but have recently started again after a twenty odd year break and learning all over again.

First time I played in public, with the exception of family and friends that is, was at a folk club... I was terrible, but most people were well into their drink and didn't seem to notice! big_smile

I'll try.  I've never tabbed anything.  Is there some software or something for drawing the lines?

Have you tried the Power Tab Editor (http://www.power-tab.net/)? It's a freebie and runs on Windows platforms. If you're a Linux user you could always try TuxGuitar - I use that on my Ubuntu box. smile

Hi,

Can anybody recommend a good teach yourself DVD based guitar course, focussed on Electric, possibly with the emphasis on technique.

I work away from home a lot, on a ship, and our internet connection is just too slow for any online based lessons.  With a DVD and some books I'd be able to get along better in the quiet of my cabin.

Have a look at the Lick Library stuff ***feel free to google them if you wish but no links please*** they cater for just about every taste and are superbly produced.
