This version sends shivers down my spine and leaves the What's New Pussycat soundtrack version by Manfred Mann far behind in it's wake. To be fair, Bert says Paul Jones was never happy singing the song , the group struggled to play the notes and it took forever to record. Not surprisingly, Bert disapproved of the punkification ( called psychedelic at that time ) by the late great Arthur Lee but I love it !
I keep reading how Arthur Lees transformed the song by adding Major 7ths but all the chords charts on the web show the conventional "B" "C" "B" and "E" "F" "G" patterns. I've tried substituting Major 7th's here and there but it does't sound right.
Any help much appreciated, Brian
My favourite Bacharach/David song sung by Dionne Warwick on the film soundtrack ( while O'Toole/Schneider enjoy a tender encounter in the shower ) and more recently Ronald Isley has recorded a wonderful version with Bert himself. Even the Frank Chacksfield version gets me going! I have searched in vain for the chords and spent hours trying to work it out on guitar but without success. Please help - Brian
