I wondered if Chordie would welcome a website review. I am a professional writer and can do it justice. Please let me know.

It's an old folk song and I need the chords so I can begin to try it.

I have only learned strumming so far, but one clever trick I learned is hum the tune and get the chords in the right place within the tune. Tap with your foot as you sing the song, to find out how many beats you need. I was in tears the first week because the teacher wanted me to play a tune and when I played the chords it didn't sound anything like the tune I was familiar with. By humming and fitting the chords in, I then managed to work out quite complex patterns which worked with each tune.

Try this. Put your fingers as if you are going to play E but instead of using the normal fingers, use the next three, leaving the index finger ready to do the barre. Then slide the fingers across to the next fret, and place the index finger as a barre over all the strings in the first fret. This is what my teacher taught me. I tried and tried, and something I discovered was that the position of the guitar makes a difference to clean sound. Then you can slide your hand down through the frets to get a feel for the barre chords. I am not that good yet, but I have achieved the F. The Bm looks almost impossible as I don't have that many fingers.

Hehe! I have been playing guitar for two months now. I hated the F chord with a vengeance and avoided it. Then I decided I had to do it. I use the barre chord. Then I just learned it, and had a stroke and went to hospital, losing the use of my fingers. I came back home and was so stubborn I have worked on it for the past two weeks and I have it back. It is possible. If I can do it anyone can.

Yeh I have bought the album twice, and know all the songs off by heart and would love to be able to play em. I shall look at the Fairport one. Thanks very much.

You got any particularly useful ones? I have watched loads, but many are not really what I need. I need to learn to incorporate them into songs.

I have a wonderful teacher that lets me play what I want to play. I research the music. He teaches me what I am doing wrong. I told him I am nearly sixty and don't want to play things that I don't enjoy. He is great and in person can put so many things right for me. It is worth it, and even if you only had one a fortnight, that would stop you from getting into bad habits.

Can anyone direct me to useful videos on this or give me advice. I am 58 years old and started playing guitar this year. I am actually doing quite well but would like to learn some easy picking patterns for the right hand, with the left hand holding down the chord. If anyone can help, thanks a lot.

I really want to find some music for this band. I love these songs and can't find any except one which was adapted by Eva Cassidy.

I am an established writer and because I love guitar am happy to write songs for acoustic guitar if someone wants them. This isn't an advert because I am talking about doing it for nothing. If you have music, let me listen to it, and I shall gladly write some words.

I just started learning two months ago, and would say that in person lessons are better. There is a lot of misinformation on the Internet and once you have bad habits these are very hard to break.
