Fascinating variety of genre here........I've already learned a great deal from this. I listened to "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show on youtube. Never heard of it before but loved it.
Very cool.

Topic: The Last Three Songs............ (30 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I get a a kick out of learning and playing new songs. It's what keeps me interested in playing and makes it fun. I'm just curious with everyone here, what are the last three songs you have played, are playing, or are working on learning?
Mine are;
- "Harvest Moon" by the great Neil Young
- "Woman" by the late, great John Lennon
- "Fast enough for you" by Phish
Rubbersole
"Oh son, for that you sold your everlasting soul?"

I second the "Jasmine S-35" by Takamine for $99.00 at MF. Bought one for my son. Worth every schilling!!!

With most any guitar, there will be wild variations in tone due to the fact that these things are made out of a natural material. I've played $100 guitars (Mitchell, Yamaha, Jasmine by Takamine) that sounded like pianos. That said I recently played a $2500 Martin HD-28 that sounded like a cigar box with rubber bands on it. Dull, lifeless, wouldn't have given you $50 bucks for it. (Sorry Marty fans, it's so.) The point is, you have to ask yourself what you want in a guitar and "inspect your expects", or rather do your homework and play as many as you can. Like everything else with guitar, I think it takes a few years of playing to even know what you like about the sound of certain guitars. But that's the fun part, isn't it? If I was you, I wouldn't get in a hurry. I'd just go out and play as many as possible, talk to knowlegeble salespeople, and even ask them to play them for you. Above all don't settle for something you haven't fallen in love with. That guitar you buy is going to be with you through thick and thin. Mine have.
Good Luck,

Tony,
My advice and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee, but for me, when I was just starting and even now, 25 years later, I generally focus on one song at a time, that I am trying to learn, and hammering it into myself to the point where, when I finally learn it, I'm kind of sick of it. (How many grammatical errors there, btw?)
Anyhoo, even the great Tom Petty in his early days, when writing songs in his apartment, said that he would sit strumming and "A" and "E" for like 2 weeks. One day his neighbor said to him, "hey man, can't you play anything else?" LOL............
Point is, there are darn few shortcuts for any of us. It's mostly repetition, muscle memory, like that for me anyway. Maybe that's why us pickers hang together the way we do.
p.s. one of these days, go to a music store and try out some other guitars, in any price range. some of them are definitely easier to play and sound heavenly. If your going to stay with this, you deserve it.
