A friend has given my 5 year old a 1/4 sized fiddle but two of the tuning pegs (D & E?) are so loose we can't tune.

Should it be inexpensive to change the pegs - I've got a few individuals I can go to but an idea of how much is too much would  be helpful

Here's a question FROM a woman - hopefully someone can answer.

I've figured out the chords (for uke) for a song I've not been able to find on Chordie or elsewhere on the net.

I thought it would be useful to others to add it to Chordie but having read through various sections of the site discovered I'll have to use chopro format to add it elsewhere on the net which will then automatically add it to Chordie - have I got this right so far?

1. - how do I find out how to use chopro formatting - happy to search myself but if you have any shortcuts I'd appreciate it.

2.- where on earth on the net do I post?  I don't have my own website and there are obviously copyrighting issues as this is not my own original composition.

I search for songs all the time - if I can't get them on chordie I tend to copy them into word and add the uke chords and shape diagrams myself - most times I don't think there are copyright details on the net - just links to add the song as a ringtone!

Any help with this would be great

I'd also recommend reading Atarah Ben-Tovim's book "The Right Instrument For Your Child" which gives good advice on what kind of instrument children of different ages can physically handle as well as other elements such as violins/fiddles resonate through the skeletal frame and skull which some children really don't like - I was horrified I'd put my daughter through this for 18 months before reading the book but it turns out she likes the feeling and is still voluntarily practising between lessons!

The stickers on the neck are really helpful but I think kids do better with a tutor in a small group.  If the lesson is 30 mins - 1 hour and they're having fun during it there shouldn't be too much pressure to practice in between until they know that they're actually enjoying it!

That's been my experience, my 5 year old is now keen to play but just doesn't have a great deal of patience to sit for long, I have however shown her how to hold and strum a ukulele and she can now play a C chord!

I started on a pink(!) mahalo with friction pegs that my brother had bought for one of my daughters but I got my own Kala for xmas so I'm much happier thanks!

Hello All ~ my first post!

I've used the site before for chords for songs etc but my first time on the forum - I googled "why does my ukulele go out of tune so quickly?" and hey presto!

Good to know this will normalise but I also found advice on another site that if the nut is too high your uke will sound too sharp.

My uke came with Aquila nylgut strings which everyone seems to rate so I'll persevere.
