It was hard to for me. I played a solid couple months before my hand stopped cramping. Play a little every day till hand starts to hurt then stop. Remember find an agle that works on the barre finger. it does not have to be strait up and down. You have the e shape already fretted just touchthe top string with barre finger tip and arch the finger with the side and flesh of the barre on the two lower strings. you can put the barre tip right over the fret to make it comforable. experiment , it don't have to be perfect and you will soon find your spot. play sittin on the dock of the bay every day.

If you are struggling with bar chords, trust me just keep at it every day. I have been at it now for a couple months and its finally become pretty easy. I still cant change from open chords to bars very fast, but its a whole lot easier now. And beleive me , I actually thought I would never be able to do it. And now I can see a little down the road. And the biggest thing that helped me  was finding the song, sitting on the doc of the bay. It is so cool when you learn a classic and so fun to play. look up on you tube at Marty Schwartz playing these songs. He has helped me so much to keep focused when getting bored.

yes a high end guitar will make you play more just because of the sound. I just bought me a new martin d-18 and my daughter a taylor gc 5. And they were expensive. But i did not pay map for either. I saved 1200 on the two together. But I will tell you this. I have a 450 buck ibanez exotic that  out plays both of them and I have both of them set up by a luthier. The ibanez has had nothing but the truss rod adjusted. So the high ends will sound better but dont think some of these lower end babies aren't just as well built or better, just with less expensive woods. And I dont have to put the Ibanez in a case with a humidifier . The expensive one are solid wood and lighter than the lower ends because the lower ends are a lot of laminate which makes them heavy and a lot more durable.

Well I ordered one today for my daugter. Only because the local dealer just will not deal. I hate to send my money somewhere else but 700 dollars off map is hard to ignore. I ordered a floor model and the the salesman said he looked at it and said it looked pristine. He said if I did not like it I has 45 days to send it back. Sounds pretty sweet, and I hope so. It is a Taylor GC-5 mahogony with ceder top.

For an acustic guitar, The best sounding one I have tried is the Blueridge in the 3 to 400 range. They sound awsome and play nice too . Also the Takaminee dread sounds good

I had the itch after a year of playing my starter Ibanez. I just purchased a Martin D- 18.  The sound is awsome and keeps me picking it up and pushing to play better. Starting bar chords now. I too went to buy a taylor and was not even considering a dread until I picked it up and played it. Now I am going to lower the action in hopes to make it even better.

I bought the quilted maple top a month ago and love it. I am a beginner and I  have been back to all the music stores looking and trying and have not found anything this nice for the price. The action is real easy, and have have adjusted the neck and its even easier. I liked the dean also and it was a little cheaper. I dont think you can beat these guitars in the 400 buck range
