Re: In addition to guitar playing injuries: YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE??? (6 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I experienced that last month.
Was abroad with work in france for 2 weeks and was planning on making the most of my spare time by practicing and getting to grips with playing. It was the first time I had taken the guitar away with me and was intent on knowing how to play at least one song by the time I got back home.
Excited at the prospect, I removed the guitar from the case, took out the tuner, turned it on, started at the sixth string and worked my way down. As I got to the first string, TWANG!!!! My first broken string, in a foreign country were I did not speak the lingo and I had no spare strings. NIGHTMARE!!!
Thankfully a work friend managed to have a spare which we set about replacing. Neither of us had changed a string before and managed to break that string as well:(
He did get into town and find a replacement for me. I was well impressed as he didn't speak french either.
A little long winded but a bugger all the same.

The thing is I don't want to stop. I can put the pain to one side when I'm playing.

I have been beasting myself over the past week with playing for about 4 hours a day.
I have been in pain since Tuesday as my right wrist has swollen up and there is fluid in it from constantly strumming.
My wife has told me to rest for a few days, is that because she is sick of hearing me play or because she is concerned about my health?
Want to know if anyone else has had any injury's from playing. The funnier the better. For example:
Was playing in the kitchen and snapped a string. As it snapped the string went into a plug socket and conducted electricity through the other strings, (as it ran across them), and I got electricuted. Good news is my calleses are like leather, bad news, I have no hair!!! (that was going to happen any way when I got older. Always look on the bright side of life).
Looking forward to some cracking responses lol.

Re: i need help with strumming patterns (3 replies, posted in Acoustic)
HI x4pickuptruck.
I am new to playing as well and there are so many songs I would like to learn. What I do to get a strum pattern is to go onto youtube and type in the name of the song with the word cover at the end.
Once I find the song I flick through a few versions to find the one I like. I make sure that I can clearly see the guitar that is being played so that I can see the chords being played are the same chords from chordie and also the strum pattern. I just count as they strum 1 & 2 & 3 etc. The ands are upstrums.
This is how I've been doing it and it works fine for me. I can normally have a strum pattern figured out after about 30 to 40 minutes of searching. I've only been playing 4 months so I'm no expert.
Chordiehelper123 has avery good post as well.

Re: Struming sound problems. (14 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Just watched the link from topdown and it helps.
I learnt that the reason my wrist is killing me is because it is not straight. LOL (I'm currently playing for at least 4 hours a day as I am off for xmas for a month and what better way to fill the time. The wife hates me right now)
I am holding the pick as said in the video link. I shall go out tomorrow and buy a nylon pick to see if there is any difference.
Also in the video it says about the pick moving about as we play. To combat that I have stabbed my pick on both sides with a pin to help give grip and it works a treat.
I shall keep you all posted about the change if any with the change of pick.

As I've learnt since I've starting playing only a few months ago, everyone has problems with strum patterns when they start.
However that is NOT what this post is about.
When I'm strumming I get a loud clicking sound. It, I think, takes away the smothness of the sound.
I have downgraded to a thiner plec and am currently using a 0.46mm plec and this is not really helping. Can anyone please help me in figuring out what I'm doing wrong?
Thank you in advance.
I'll try and post a video so people can hear.
