Hey Bob - Welcome and thanks for the song. Very good offering. I still heard it country in my head.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the comments, I wrote the song as a ballad with strings in the chorus, I'm not a big fan of strings though I could'nt help but hear strings in the chorus, however; I do appreciate your comments, brilliant site, thanks again. Bob.

I was sittin' home a-lone gettin' myself half stoned

when I decided to put my records on
         D                    D7             G                      D
I was havin' myself a ball when I heard ol' Tom T. Hall
                            A7                       D
I picked up my gui-tar and I played a-long

D                                 D7                  G                           D
We sang a little country song me & that story tellin' son of a gun
                                           A7
about old dogs & water melon wine
     D                D7                G                         D
the last country song was the next song to come on
                                         A7                     D
and I remembered the year Clayton Delaney died

              D
[Chorus] There was Willie, Waylon me & Johnny Cash
                                                                    A7
George Jones & Merle Haggard were somethin' else
       G                                           D                             G
then round about half past two Hank Williams moaned the blues
        D                             A7                    D
and I found myself drinkin' whiskeys by the glass

[Turnaround]

D                              D7                G                           D
Well I really had me a time with my friends & a bottle of 'shine
                                                     A7
we played our music til the break of day
          D                              D7  G                       D
by the time Hank came back on - Lord I was really stoned
                                          A7                      D
he moaned the blues but my blues had gone a-way

              D
[Chorus] There was Willie, Waylon me & Johnny Cash
                                                                    A7
George Jones & Merle Haggard were somethin' else
       G                                           D                             G
then round about half past two Hank Williams moaned the blues
         D                            A7                    D
and I found myself drinkin' whiskeys by the glass

              D
[Chorus] There was Willie, Waylon me & J.R. Cash
                                                                    A7
George Jones & Merle Haggard were somethin' else
       G                                       D                        G
then round about half past two ol' Hank moaned the blues
        D                             A7                    D
and I found myself drinkin' whiskeys by the glass
                                           A7                    G
I was a - layin' drunk shakin' Jim Beam by the hand
             D

Hi ya all, this is the way I feel about country music

     Ain't No Living Legends Anymore
           [Words & Music Bob McNulty]
              C
[chorus]  Ain't No Living Legends Anymore
                                                         F
ain't nobody out there like before
G
all I hear are new hats rockin' up the charts
                                                      C
Ain't No Living Legends Any-more

                           C
[1st verse] Ain't no one around like ol'e George Jones
                                 C7                  F
'cept maybe Willie Nelson & the boys
      G
ol'e Hank has gone forever but his music still lives on
                                                      C
Ain't No Living Legends Any-more

[chorus]

[2nd verse]-[key change][A]-[D]

       D
The new hats they have stormed upon the scene
                                                  D7                               G
they don't know where they're goin' or where they've been
             A
they've done to country music what they did to rock n' roll
                                                      D
Ain't No Living Legends Any-more

             D
[chorus]No there Ain't No Living Legends Anymore
                                                         G
Ain't nobody shinin' that's for sure
A
all I hear are new hats foolin' with the sound
                                           D
Ain't No Living Legends aro-und

[3rd verse]
D
Now they're sayin' country music has advanced
                               D7                   G
just because some-body wants to dance
A
they tell me I got to change those days are gone I'm told
                                              D
but I got country music in my soul

[chorus] [finish with the following lines]

               A
No there ain't no living legends
A                         A                 A                       A
where are all my heroes-like Willie & Waylon Johnny Kris & Merle
          A                                          D
Ain't No Living Legends Any-more
A                                                    D
Why the hell did Nashville sell her soul
