Nice uke Jerome!
To speed up the learning of chords & scales and understand that "bizarre tuning".
I'd like to share with all interested a simple piece of info that, for most guitar players,is like turning on a light switch when it comes to learning to play a uke.
If you place a capo on your guitar at the fifth frett and only use the 1st,2nd,3rd & 4th strings, you have a uke tuning, A E C G. So, all movable shapes and scales you might use on a guitar capoed on the fifth, using only those 4 strings, can be applied to the uke.
I hope I explaned it right, and I hope it helps

That song hits hard Selso.  For me , a good song is one that makes you think about or feel something. That song did both, especially the lines "They handed me a shovel" and "as the dirt came down like rain". I've lost two brothers myself.... both musicians... and they live within me still.   Yours will always be with you...   Peace and love

I like that song daddycool!!  If she's across the street or down the block or just the greener grass on the other side of the hill. There's always one somewhere if your looking. But like the chorus says;"so don't go playing around".  Damn straight brother!  And to borrow a well known phrase        "stay cool"

Zager and Evans? In The Year 2525
I don't remember the year , but it was maybe a year or two after that song was released, but not too sure. Those years where a little foggy. A friend and I were on our way to a fishing trip and spotted a sign which read something like "one night only, Zager and Evans In The Year 2525".  We stopped, bought a ticket. The first song they did was 2525, it was ok, not quite like the recording, a little sloppy. The next few songs kept going down hill. Maybe we expected to much, I just don't know, but we left after about one hour. Even though we expected more, still had a good time, the beer might have had something to do with that! The next day we had tight lines, as the steelhead were biting well. Never heard of them after that.

I really enjoyed your step-by-step photos. The sound port looks great! I can understand how the player would hear things better, but does the person in front of the guitar hear it differently? When you do your next one, could you make a before and after recording? If so, let us know your thoughts on that, please? Also I'd like to see the Yairi emblem when completed,as would others I'm sure.

I listened and I think it's pretty nice. I know your grandpas both like it!!  Nice song.

Since it played great for a week or so, it does seem odd that it's rapidly getting worse. Hope they can fix it for ya. smile

Since it's a new guitar and was just set up a few weeks ago, I'd take it back and let them re-adjust it.
The first guitar I ever bought, after a couple weeks it started getting buzzes. I took it back, and a couple days later they gave me a new guitar.  Never was told why?? The replacement played great for 20 years!

Now now cytania , I wasn't  advising Seersha to tune by hear, only trying "poorly I guess" to explain what to listen to when tuning by ear,
But if your tuner was ever misplaced and your pegs were loose and I was nearby. You could use my tuner, I'm never without one. In standard pitch is the only place to be, just ask the piano player!  smile

To the question--how do people tune it by ear?-- smile
With every ones ears being different . For me, if I gently thumb pick an in tune open A,then while it's still a firm sound. Gently thumb the D string. When you can hear the oscillating tone from the D, adjust the tuner -up or down in tone- till the D is a straight sound wave in your ear with the A string. Then the G string to the D. and so on an on. To get the A string in tune. Use a 'A' tuning fork and tune the A string to it with the same method of listening to the oscillating tone waves and trying to make them parallel . I think every one can hear this , if they pay attention and know what to listen for. It usually "not always" works for me.  Hope this helps, never tried to explain this before.

P.S. when tuned this way, any open string's wave will be parallel with any other open string and to any fretted note, if fretted just right, and if the intonation is superb. And judging only by the appearance  of your beautiful guitar, this should work.

Didn't know E.V.H.  used a seymore duncan. Can't wait to hear the you tube

One other thing no one has mentioned naolslager is to be sure your thumb is positioned to give you the best leverage. Move your thumb and wrist around a bit till you find that sweet spot where your forefinger has the most power with the least effort  smile

Here's an easy one!
Take a smoked sausage or hot dog, slice it length wise but not all the way through, so it's like a hot dog bun.
Slice some pepper jack cheese (or whatever kind you like)1/2"x1/2"x length of dog, lay it in the dog
Lay sausage or dog diagonally on a buttered slice of your favorite bread
Place 6 or 8 of these on a cookie sheet
Broil for 3 or 4 minutes  cool

Yes indeed; take it to a professional estimator. Kids! Hands off! And may the tone be as rich as the value.
