Hi Ozy. I'm self taught myself. Been at it since Woodstock. Started on keyboards first. Helps to figure out chords. Keep strumin' away. Practice your chord changes. As we go through life, things do change and we begin to try other music. When we come back to our beginnings, it all starts to come together. The main thing is to enjoy yourself and have fun.
Many of my family and friends play. When we get together it's all a blast. Sounds pretty good most times. Sometimes we even sing in key. Everyone learns from each other. We have to keep the music alive for the young folk. The more they are around it the more they get into it. Currently teaching my grandoughter piano and my grandson guitar. They love it.
There are so many free lessons on youtube. Wish they had them when I started 40 years ago. I've aquired many guitars through the years. My favorites are the acoustic/electric. Different guitars for different moods. Whatever your preferences are, go at it and have fun.

In the 60's and early 70's, most of us wanna be's relied on learning from each other. I believe Woodstock started most of it.
A lot of people stopped playing but many of us kept going on regardless of what life dealt us. Over the years I've stopped playing for periods of time, but when I saw a new guitar I liked, I started playing again. Along with the interest of a lot of younger people wanting to learn what ever it is that I know. And then came the internet, which made so many things possible for us that were self taught. New chords, new equipment, new possibilities. Whether it be learning a new song, just finding all the old music or trying to keep up with all the new stuff from the many, many talented new artists. Maybe stumbling upon Chordie gave us a new place to go. The chance to share what we play and listen to with everyone else out there that feels the same in some way as us.
During many experiences in our lives, there is a song or songs, that we can just mellow out and relate that music to what ever it is that has happened. After 35 years of playing, all for fun and personal satisfaction, I find it awesome that a website like Chordie
is available for all of us. So much stuff, so little time. My advice to all the younger folks, whatever happens in your daily lives, try to keep up the interest in playing. Over the years your experience alone will be priceless.

Just happened to stumble upon you guys. I've been playing for over 35 yrs. and you can't imagine the work you've saved me. I've been inputting lyrics on a spreadsheet for more than fifteen years now. It's always been a lot of work everytime someone needs the chords for certain songs. I print out copies of My Songbook for all our get togethers, but anyone else playing guitar seems lost without the chords. I've taught friends, family for the past 20 years or so, and the young ones are always looking to learn. This website puts me in a great position to keep the music alive with all the young folk. I just play to have fun, and teach the kids about music. It's great to see them interested. Your site will keep them in awe. They'll be great. Keep up the good work. The crowd in the chat rooms seem to be very helpful. Good luck to all.
