ha ha great idea , i might just do that . isnt it amazing how our brains can second guess ourselves and create doubt , was just looking at my song list and started thinking it could be better and is it good enough and comparing myself to better more seasoned performers . im under no illusions as to my average ability but still keen to impress , anyway i will soldier on !!

Re: Remembering Chords (31 replies, posted in Acoustic)
i just logged on to chordie with this exact issue , i ve been asked to play at a party with bout 40 to 50 people there , im playing with few years but apart from playing to friends and family (people i know) i ve never gigged to strangers , while i can sing and play i need that bloody book right there on the music stand in front of me and i think it just looks awful , its almost like a crutch and a habit i ve gotten into thats very difficult to break ,
The freedom some musicians have of just standing up there and belting out their songs un aided is a great ability to have , and it has been mentioned to me a few times as in " so you still need the book" , i always feel silly then , i dunno , i am reluctant to do this gig but then will feel like a coward if i dont ,,,HELP

found excellent site few days ago -learnclassicalguitar.com- well worth checking out, has beginner stuff and some lovely not too difficult stuff to play as well. Learning country dance by Ferinando carulli at the min, beautiful song to play and fairly easy which is even more amazing.Carulli was /is famous composer not ony for great material but also because unlike some of his contempories his work was very playable for the not so gifted . Never in a million years did i think that classical music would interest me but last few days i just cant get enough of it- was stuck in d du udu rut so what a welcome break this site is . any one know it? thought id spread the word any way and folks its completely free......option to donate if you want , hav nt done that yet but will certainly be sending on something

Topic: fingerpicking to different times (1 replies, posted in Acoustic)
This instrument of torture that we all love really would test the patience of a saint some times. I m working very hard on my finger picking with couple months ( playin about 6 months)and it has improved a lot. I can pick well without looking at my right(picking) hand and i use the correct fingers. When it comes to singing with it im using the same pattern all the time where it seems to fit and sound ok ,so the prob would be whether the song is in 3/4 or 4/4 or whatever im tryin to squeeze same pattern in ,eg with a G chord i pick strings 6 and 1 together then pick strings 4,3 and 2 .Is that 4/4 time ?, how would you pick say 3/4 time arpeggio style. I love to pick and sing , even the most simplist of songs sound great i feel when each note of every chord is heard but i want to do it properly . I am trying to teach my self so some times i dont know what im doing or if what im trying to play is correct. Am i making any sense here guys?

I am new to this site and world of guitar but hav nt yet heard mike herberts name mentioned ( 6 string .com) this is a great site for raw beginners to advanced i think . justin guitar , spytunes and others often mentioned are certainly great sites as well but mike herberts way of teaching is at least equal to those if not( in my opinion) better. All guitarists ,beginners especially should suscribe. lots of excellent free stuff going there also

hi guys/gals, new to this site and world of guitar really but am hooked to the point of being obsessive . Playing only few months but have made good progressbut have put enormous amount of time in. Been playing simple struming songs to 4/4 time and took ages to be able to sing along. Now im trying to learn 3/4 time and sing along and its proving impossible. Trying wit aweek now and cant convert over from the 4/4 time. Really likestarting all over again. Is this normal? any tips going to speed up progress?. I d guess that i have probably average ability for guitar playing but am super motivated and determined to learn, just cant afford lessons. Appreciate any help thanks
