I hear you NELA..  no idea why.  But, if I may.. catch up a bit..  In the past year, I got a J165 Gibson acoustic/electric guitar that I love, love love..  Since getting it, I have not played the Martin much.. I feel like I'm neglecting it.  Will get back to it I'm sure.  Actually have to have the Martin set up, new strings, etc..   and in the last 2 months or so I picked up a Loar LO-16.  Black.  Its a fun 0 sized guitar that is just the kind to bring to a campfire or the beach..  I'll tell ya, the thing stays in tune and has fine action..  I really like it a lot..  My gigs have slowed down a bit so I do a some open mics.. I've met some really cool folks doing that .. I must check in more frequently..   bottom line.. I don't want to work I just want to play guitar all day.

Joey..  thoughts and prayers with you and yours..  words are hard to find.  Deadstring.. you are so right.. what you said.

NELA - Just awful..  wishing you the best.  Keep the positive attitude - it really does some good.  God bless you..
One of my fave country tunes right now is Swinging Doors by Merle.  We've been playing it lately at gigs..  people love it.
Its here on Chordie..    Stay strong.

Interesting stuff..  I did a bit of research after seeing Joe Fletcher & the Wrong Reasons..  he was playing a Loar LO 16.  I really like the smaller body guitars..  and this one, really sounded great.  When I checked it out on the net..  it appears a guy named Lloyd Loar worked for Gibson back in 1919 -1924.  He was a luthier and made primarily mandolins..  if you go to the Loar website there are a few artists that use these..  the model I'm referring to - Loar Lo 16 is actually affordable at $399 new.  I've seen them as low as $250 on ebay.
Of course, the last thing I need is yet another guitar..   just can't help the GAS.

Hi folks..  does anyone here have a Loar guitar..  and if so, how do you like it?  Was at a concert a while back and the opening act was Justin Townes Earle and I do believe this is the guitar he was playing..   sounded good.  Did a little research on them and they're relatively inexpensive..  just looking for an opinion from someone who has one..  thanks.

Many thanks folks for your info and advice...  I may go ahead and get one..  we do quite a bit of Americana type stuff..  think it would be kinda cool to play that on a few tunes...
I had to read Beamer's reply a couple of times myself.. funny.
Thanks again..  will post if it happens..

Hi Folks -  Anyone here ever play one of those 6 string hybrid banjos ??  Seems like a fun thing to mess around with and no learning curve..  they're relatively inexpensive (lower end models)..  Just curious if anyone has one and what you think..
thanks...

Hey BGD -  I gotta say, I sort of hold a pick that way as well..  problem is my thumb sometimes splits open from just that.  I've come to realize its the way I hold the pick..  after many, many years of playing this way..  well, I don't see it changing.  I did however change to a heavier pick.  A little better but I have a feeling it will be this way.  Its worse in the winter... when hands are chapped, etc.   We all have our techniques and downright set in our ways huh..   keep up the strum.

Just had the good fortune to get a cj165 Gibson.. it is sweet..  did I need it - no, I have a few acoustics..  but I had an Epi Dot that I found I just wasn't playing much.. granted it looked great - natural, a real beauty..  Decided to trade it in toward the Gibson..  best move.  I love this guitar.  Extremely different than my HD28 Martin but a great addition.  Now it seems I'm beginning to hunt down an arch top..  its a disease I tell ya..

Had the pleasure of seeing Harry Chapin in Boston back in 1973 or so..  he was the opening act for Carly Simon.  He stole the show.  Excellent.  I have many faves, its hard to narrow down to just one.  I have to say one of my all time favorites is Neil Young..  no wait - Bonnie Raitt..  although..    see, its difficult.  Kinda like Lays potato chips..  just can't have one..

I'm also thinking, if it plays good and sounds good - let it be.  Probably gives the guitar a bit of character as well..
Keep on strummin'

Russell..  Its just awful when something like this happens..   thankfully, you're bank is taking care of most of it..  My house was broken in to a couple of years back..  these theives even stole my Fed Tax return check.  Such a hassle and such a violation..  they also stole a Squier elec guitar and Fender amp that they had to schlep up from my basement.. all the while my Martin hd28 was sitting there and they left it..  thankfully.
Good luck with everything..  Deb

I see folks asking about chords to a song, etc.. so, I thought I'd ask about a tune I've been looking for a long time.. I think its written by Sippie Wallace but was on a very early album by Bonnie Raitt..  I can figure it out to a point then there's just a chord or two that escapes me..  The song is You Got to Know How.  Appreciate it...  Deb

25 guitars!  Impressive.
My main guitar is a Martin HD28..
Also have 12 string Aria & a 6 string Aria
Epiphone 150 Flat top
Art & Lutherie A&L cedar acoustic-electric
Epiphone Dot
Currently have my eyes on a Gibson J45.  It may have to wait..

A few years back I had something going on with my left thumb.. at the base of it, a bump stuck out and made it difficult to form chords, etc..  went to the doc and got a shot of cortisone in it..  now, it almost seems unimaginable to get a shot in that part of your thumb/hand..  but - while it really hurt to get the shot, it helped the problem tremendously.  Not sure if we're talking the same thing here but that's my story..   good luck to you.  Deb

Thank you BGD for this good news.  Can't wait to see the pics..  Sounds like its Nessie's lucky day..

A few on here I have heard and like alot..  Cheryl Wheeler, Greg Isakov..  excellent musicians and songwriters.  Here's a band that I've recently have been smitten with...  The Black Lillies.  If you haven't heard them or heard of them..  check "em out.. I"ve seen them live a couple of times..  so good, so gracious..  they really bring it all together.

Good pics Nao..  guitars looking good too..  I was wondering.. when any of us picks up a guitar, what is the first chord you strum to see what it sounds like..??  For me, its a E chord.  Looks like you're playing an E chord as well.  Just curious..  doesn't matter what guitar I pick up, its always tested with an E
Safe travels

Nice job Pete..  love that tune..

Hey Deadstring..  I've used a Fender Acoustisonic for gigs like that and it works great..  has seperate inputs for a mic and for guitar...  not a bad deal there..  Deb

Wow.. finally able to get on.  Just got power back on from the wicked storm that blew this area out on Friday night..  one of the worst storms I've ever seen including hurricanes.  It was like a hurricane in 30 minutes..  transformers outside of my house blew, poles and trees down - power out.  We're on a well so when power fails.. no water.  No water for anything including flushing..  dreadful.  But, back on now after 3-1/2 days without.  I have to give a shout out to the power company - I literally saw them working around the clock..  still so much damage around.  Good luck all..  Deb

Z - right you are.. with all the day to day stuff who has time?!  So, I do try and make time ..  time to kayak, play some golf.. hang with some friends..  above all else - play guitar daily.  Also play at least a gig a week..  Sometimes, just hanging in front of a tv is great..    remember, all work and no play..  well, you know the rest.  I think making a to do list has to include fun..  once its on the list.. well, ya gotta do it !  Deb
