yoyo   try

try barring the 5th fret and using your 4th and baby finger to make an em shape on the second fret up from the bar and use a DUDUDUDUDU........ strumming pattern but muting all the strings on the down stroke (lifting the chord from the fret board slightyl) and only hit the first 4 strings on the up stroke (with the chord back on the fret board) this will give you a SKA kind of sound. quite funky

Hi guys. just thought id share a link with you all.

i hit a learning wall about a month ago until i found an amazing guitarist on youtube.

Dolye dykes.  i listned to his arangement for U2's with or without you and i was amazed

i have just finished learning it and i recomend to anyone who fancys a change of style to have a go.

i have just about mastered it after weeks of bleeding fingers and fustration.

SO WORTH IT!!!!!

you should take your guitar to a specialist guitar shop regularly over the years to get set up. I Take myn every year and its amazing how much difference it sounds and plays (like new). The woods etc are always moving possition due to the humidity of the air so a regular set up will keep your guitar playing nicely and above all correctly

i was once in the same position as you,

i have been playing for 10 years and i had lessons for 1,
now you have the basics is just a case of perfecting the basic techniques WELL!!!! (dont slip into bad bar chord habbits!!!)

this site is brilliant to help you progress quickly throughout the rest of your musical life
if you have trouble with a song youtube is a saviour!!!!!!!

just whatever you do dont stop playing,

(cheap guitars you may have trouble with bar chords due to the hight of the action (distance from string to fret board) dont let this phase you bedcause when it comes to upgrading to a new guitar your fingers will be strong as hell !!!!!!!)

it is deffo to do with the change in setup, when i changed guitar i was so used to the other 1 i got my finger placement all wrong, frets different distances apart, neck wider, strings thicker..... all these things contribute to an awkward change, keep playing it and you will get used to it, or it may just not be the guitar 4 u

Now, im going to describe my theory to you in breif,

i personaly think that if you grow your hair slightly longer than normal and ye why not, poss let it get a bit outa hand
it will amke you play 4.89% better! the other effects are that you start to wonder down the street instead of walk, all ov a sudden you take up smoking and best of all you start to carry the sweet smell of joss sticks,

all this helps to make a guitarist an artist!!!!!!!

who agrees????

if you can get a book and learn the TRI-ADS. it will learn you the chords that go really well together and you can start making up your own chord patterns,

this isnt a bad thing
once you get your chord changes correct and fluent your right arm will move naturally
and depending in the song your playing u will develop your own technique to make the song
your own
