I'd agree with most of the names above, all very talented, especially Townshend.

Paul Weller should be included as well, he's written loads of fantastic songs. Also, a somewhat overlooked one in my opinion, Jake Burns of SLF. Not forgetting Strummer/Jones of The Clash.

One I reckon deserves a mention is Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays, not the best song writer as such I agree, but his ability to steal lyrics from 2 or 3 songs and weld them round about his own lyrics and come up with something totaly unique is probably more difficult than you'd imagine.

Craig.

Hell Ya Strummer/Jones

I agree with everyones post
But no one put
JOE STRUMMER!
or Mick Jones

tron I love the dubliners and saw doctors, wolfe tones I am not too fond of much.
But this song the soldier has nothing to do with being orange or green or even pinky sort of purple. It is a song about a soldier in the british army, not the orange lodge.

And if you are saying about "green" songs being the dubliners, they sing old style rebel songs not the terrorist modern rebel songs that I have heard the wolfe tones sing. in old style I mean their songs against the british army and their pro ira songs were based on before 1916, not modern day times, even though so many narrow minded people like to think or romantisise that it is. After 1916 the IRA were terrorists ( I might be wrong with the exact year there but thereabouts) after treaties were signed then they were no longer freedom fighters. I could go on for hours about this but it would make my blood boil when people think they know when they dont.

I also think it funny yet strange how a few ( or maybe a lot) americans that call themselves irish american think that it was ok to fund a terrorist group like the IRA, even the american government let their banks do it too until the 11th of september now know internationally as 9/11.
Now the government their made sure no terrorsit groups could launder money through any bank in the world. But if it were not for that day the ira would still get funds through this way and nothing would have been done.

I am not orange, protestant, green, catholic or a pinky and perky follower. I am for human life on earth no matter what colour, religion or beliefs.

ok, This has been editted twice now. I am sometimes bad with words, I am not looking for an argument about this nor a big heated debate. I just saw a post I was not happy with.

Ok, back to drinking my birthday wine.

All the best
Ken

I agree with you totally
I am sorry if i offended
I agree with you on the terrorism part
OH, and i was born in ireland and lived there
for my first 12years of my life..... soo i am not just
some American thinking they knew all about the troubles....
One day, i will return to my land ... hopefully with no more pain

So, I was wondering who some of your
musical heros are. who you inspire to be.

Mine is Paul Simonon.
The bass player from The Clash
just his attitude and the fact that he didn't
even play the bass when he was offered a place in the band

The song "Soilder" is good, for the orange
Now if you are green you best be looking
at The Wolfe Tones, or The Dubliners
or go down to any irish pub
and tell them to sing any good irish music
