Thanks for the welcome upyerkilt lol.  feels strange just typing that lol.  I know what you mean by folk clubs having been to some myself but I have to say this one is not like any the folk clubs I have been to and I can't actually think of any time I have heard folk played at it.  However a folk club would probably be as good for the purpose of motivating you to practice nyp.

There is a club in manchester where the members get together and play, play/sing etc for each other.  It is a great incentive to really practice when you know people are going to be listening.  It is very friendly - meets fortnightly or used to and all ages from teens up are welcome.  people are very encouraging and often work on things to play together etc.  Jamming session at end.  All styles of music get played and it can be a really enjoyable evening.  If anyone wants info on it mail me.  Oh and by the way - I am another one like NYP so Gifted is my online gaming name not an indication of my musical abilities on guitar hehe.  Happy new year all - I joined the site today.
