Depening upon your abilities, the type of guitar is irrelevent. An Ovation guitar is top of the line. I currently play a 12 string Yamaha and a 6 string ventura. It is what you are plugged into that makes all the the difference.. Your P/A system controls your sound. A good EQ pedal or even a chorus Pedal can make an acoustic guitar sound great. Good luck...

Now worries OLD DOLL, I'm just getting thru the new guy Jitters. When i first read the song, i was actually thinking about my wife hearing me sing it.. We've been married 28 years and i have been performing in Houston for most of that time, but it wouldn't matter.. I would not walk out of my studio in once piece after singing that song. LOL.. However, i still think its funny, and maybe i'll cover it on our aniverary !! Peace.

Guitarpix. you didn't state what kind of guitar you are playing ? Acoustic or electric? Are you a singer ? I have found through all of the years that once you have reached your full ability, find someone that is better than you to play with.. If you are a singer, then you don't need to master the guitar, you just have to play it to your vocals. Having a partner with lead guitar abilities is all you need. If you are not a singer, the trust me, take lessons from a pro.. Teaching yourself guitar theory and scales at your age is fruitless. Its not too late.. I mean no disrespect by this post, just the same thing i told my son.. He has now produced his first CD, with only 2 years of guitar with me teaching him.. He is a singer/songwriter just like his dad. I don't comprehend most of what he writes, but thats not the point.. Its his music.. Peace..

Re: little acoustic brothers (1 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Great Question !!. I personally owned a Sigma 12 string as my second guitar. I played it professionally for 6 months until i bought my Ovation. I was proud to own the Sigma.. To me, it was a Martin gutiar. Now, to answer your question, there no comparison to the Sigma and the true Martin as far as 12 strings go.. Thats all i can talk about because its all i know.. The sound, the feel, the neck of the guitar is so vasty different, you can't even compare them. I loved my Sigma, but when i bought my Ovation 12 string, it didn't compare. Not even a little. the neck action was so much greater. The sound was so much better.. Don't get me wrong, the Sigma is great for sitting around the house and playing for your friends, or around a campfire at the lakehouse, but on stage, there is no comparison. Now, having owned an Ovation 12 string and comparing it with the Applause, My opinion is that there is no comparison. Period. I don't know why, but i have experience.. I have tested them both.. Now, the funny thing, is that after one of my children fell (jumped) onto my Ovation and broke the neck just 2 hours before a show, i called a friend who loaned me his Yamaha 12 string. I thought i would hate it.. But, the sound and quality and feel all along the neck was amazing.. I went out the very next day to Rockin Robins in Houston and bought the exact guitar and i still play it to this day.. Long story short, its what you feel.. Not the name brand, not the cost, not the look.. How does it feel/sound, to you.. Peace..

Ok, i went back and found where you are comming from.. upyerkilt, i meant no disrepect at all. I was only commenting as a fellow songwriter. I actually found the song quite funny.. One that would get me slapped as soon as i sang in front of my wife.. I meant no disrespect, for it is not my style.. Now that i am here, i will be submitting my own songs and look forward to your critique.. Peace..

Topic: Ok Southpaw41l, I'm in.. Bricks Tavern, Houston Texas.. (1 replies, posted in My local band and me)
Just finished a gig last night in Houston Texas at the Bricks Tavern Bar and Grill.. I performed a solo show to a capacity crowd thank goodness. I had a great night. I did my standard music on my 12 string ( "Neil Young, Bob Seger, Cat Stevens, Jimmy Buffet), ect. I am still excited about the night.. Totally cool. The best part of the night was being offered $100 to do the song "Taxi" by Harry Chapin.. Thank goodness it was in my set list.. Biggest tip ever.. Too cool... Are there any other Houston Texas performers out here ??.. I have been in the business for over 20 years.. I will bet we have at least chewed the same grass..

Re: What's the hardest chord you ever encountered? (133 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I must agree with gitaardocphil. If you are a singer, then your voice is in command.. Difficult chords can be skipped, changed, augmented or simplified. Nobody in the audience will know the difference. I have trouble with a BM7 on my 12 string.. I have several songs i do that use that chord.. I either skip it and cover vocally or play a D instead.. It works.. Peace..

James. Thanks so much for the reply.. I was a member of "Guitar tabs.com" for a while but that seems to have dissapeard since i have gotten my new computer. I have been perusing all the segments of this board today and this seems to be a site with a wealth of information.. I just finished a show last night doing my standard covers (Elton John, Bob Seger, Cat Stevens, Neil Young), ect and found this site.. I mostly post at night after a gig to help me wind down. Some of the songs i have seen written here are fantastic.. I look forward to talking to all of you.. Once again, James, thanks for responding to my post.. Peace...

Re: easy songs? without singing? (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
One that works for me is "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles.. Its cool to play, the audience knows the song and will sing it themselves. Along the same theory is "Needle and the damage done" by Neil Young. Peace..
