I agree with everyone - no hard or fast rules when it comes to vocals.
Capos work really well! Transposition is something we should all learn but seldom do ( It's on my to do list )
But generally effects and vocals are great tools, but the greatest tool is repetition. ( did i spell that right )
Example I can play allot of songs chord ally, so vocally I pick songs that offer challenges....Mmmm that high note in the chorus: Etc
And I do my vocal exercises daily building up my speaking voice, my chest voice - my head voice - until, believe it or not.....I HIT it!
Greatest feeling ever! Didn't think I could get there, but do you know what?  NAILED IT! So effects are great, BUT good vocal technique is even better, it something that we hate, it's something that we want right now, but realistically it's something that will take time....TIME!

Thanks dude, I will try it out - really liking my capo ATM. Also liking the tonality of Eb. But in terms of tuning down, I have a phobia that I need to overcome when touching the tuning pegs LOL, I sort of balk at changing from concert pitch? Don't know what it is? smile

I love the key of A and E the most - although I play blues in most keys - I cannot seem to venture out of certain tonal centres - example - when I play Johnny be good - I use the key of G - But I do a whole lot of songs using a beaut 12 bar in E. In other words I really like the sound of the blues in E....I guess it's just the way you evolve as a guitarist - but I play the same riffs over and over again.....But last night I pulled out my Blues book - with some tasty 7th bar chords in A - It just sounds so sweet - I cannot seem to play it many other keys tho - I have been playing for at least 12 years - I play alot of different genres - Im loving Jazz too at the moment - Oh - also - I just brought a Boss RC 50 - just awsome - has anyone else got one - Oh - and another thing - I have had this Korean made Tele under my bed for the last twenty years - I think its from the late 70's early 80's - it's inspired me to play more blues now - the sound from the neck pick -up is so sweet - not to mention the maple full length neck!!!! just Heaven - I guess there's no definitive question...just what are yer favourite blues progressions to Lead solo over! Thanks Chordians!!!

Nice one - Sometimes it's easy to say - What the heck! It's quitting time - but the best thing to do is just have a break - just forget about the guitar - forget about music - watch some DVD's or something - build something - just get away from the GUITAR - and then, when you least expect it.......you walk past the music room - see the guitar, and just have to play it!~

Yeah basically, can get a little bit boring.....but you need to push through and keep at it.Keep setting little goals (is that the right spelling) try changing from say Am to C chord fluently, just keep doing it over and over then try to  appregio the chord progression ( single note picking ) , then after that add a D chord.....and so on - just keep building up from there....repetition is the key. Try simple songs ..... two to three chords - there are literally tonnes out there, if not make up your own - These three chords sound good together E A D any combination - try appregio then try different strumming patterns, mix them around and start again - over and over - monotony is the key.....then once you climb that little hill ..... you will see more mountains stretching ahead......and in the distance you will see Ararat ( Armenian mountain now called Mount everest ) thats where you want to be - but that takes a life time - in the meantime its going to get tough, but enjoy the journey, because the view in the end is well worth it! Oh and find a good guitar teacher, somebody to inspire you on your journey.....a guide!

In sydney down under there is a pub that supports the Blues. 1st  Sunday of the month; The house blues band plays and invites other musicians to join in.....OH WHAT FUN....Hehehehe. Packed out little joint in Newtown, what a buzz.

Interesting topic, because you either play professionally in the pub and club circuit or you have a record label and play in front of thousands. Or like it seems most; you play away in your bedroom hoping for a party invite or something.

I need to learn how to sing properly and get into a duo or something. Maybe oneday play at a blues or folk festival.
There comes a time!

I am 40yro from down under have been playing guitar for about 8 years solid ((previously picked up the G tar when in my teens )) .- play in a band - rhythm  guitar, do all sorts of acoustic songs at parties etc. Just  love the guitar and singing, beats the day job - Love all sorts of pop and rock and grunge and blues and anything that sounds descent.
Live for music ..yeah..umm..I guess thats it.

I think its a matter of not what you perform;but how you perform, I think there is a lot to be said for how a song is delivered.I use a loop pedal, and you just have to get it right - At the end of the night you have to leave the audience enthralled and captivated, wanting more - it's a hard task.....so therefore we have to use everything in our electronic arsenal - I play in a band with real musicians, nothing replaces such talent - but I find performing solo that there seems to be holes in some of the songs, thats where a midi file could be a bit useful.....Should I get a drum machine and learn to programme it? Should I buy a recorder and produce my own drum and bass patterns? Any tips -
I have been playing for a while, maybe it's just a metamorphisis I am going through - Who knows.

I think with busking you have to be lucky as well - I mean if your a cute little kid or something its easy right - you get a coin for your cuteness - if your a good guitar player male - middle aged, then I think the chances of making serious money is harder - I think there needs to be a hook - like that dude who paints himself all blu - and busks, with a guitar. In Sydney there is the cross ( table dancing - pros etc ) - on a friday and Saturday night - where groups of guys go out and get smashed, know theres a dude who busks there - old man, a real character - he now plays with a stuffed parrot on his shoulder - know that would be tough busking there, all them drunk want to be guitar players. Now if I was to busk - and I am going to do it - it will be the type of experience thats going to decide wether I do it again. I hope it goes well - I will probably only busk for an hour - just for the experience - not the money - I just want to play out there - share the music - make people happy - but then again don't most people walk around with MP3's etc - Anyway I like this post.

Mmmm - the problem with real musos - is that sometimes they are hard to find.I play a mean rythym guitar, now I'm getting quite competent at lead - But some songs that I cover example Elton John Bennie and the jets just needs that keyboad riff to go off!- But I am not going to totally sell out - I have found that an acoustic guitar on it's own for rock is pretty awsome - So ......my idea is to maybe do a 50/50 50 midi and 50 unplugged  - I think some of them midi tracks - or should I say Mp3 tracks are pretty lame - I don't know I really need to try them out - plus I am a bit curious - Will it work? I definantly don't want to sound karoake. I am a true musician - I live for my art! But I am thinking of just experimenting a little  - thats all> You know blur the lines.

Does anyone use midi players or MP3 for back - up - ?

I am playing the blues at the moment - I am ethnic, I have male male pattern baldness, my life is swell, I have a family that loves me.....it's just that the blues sounds really GREAT - try a blues progression in A - E - B and do like Chuck Berry type licks and wallah! Your playing party time blues foot stompin mayhem.I loop a blues progression, and play pentatonic scales all over the neck - sound really cool - especially Doors songs! I don't know where i'd be without the blues,it's such a springboard to bigger and better things.I may try taking it too the streets.....bit of black shoe polish and a secong hand grand daddy hat should go a long way, Oh! I almost forgot .......no shoes. The fender and vox amp may give me away.........LOL. Blind One Eye Willy...LOL

At the moment I am recording the guitar Pro's of songs and just "ripping" using these scale forms.
I have run out of songs - Basically I need simple 3 chord or 4 chord songs -
I do these songs at the moment, Knockin on Heavens Door - Blues songs in E A B - Black Magic Woman -
Doors songs -
Are there any classics that I am missing!

( I am partial to rock songs especially from 60's 70's )

I agree whole heartedly with South Paw!
You have to sing like you mean it. Microphone technique is important!
But a good investment - (I just purchased this book)  Singing for Dummies
Full of good helpful stuff -
If you really want to extend vocal range - Vocal Exercises are a must!
Good luck -
(personally I don't do the exercises, I just make sure I sing everynight - the songs I'm practising that is.)

Sorry - My mates dad was also severly effected by that war - It seems like the ripples have not faded.
I just think - Morrison is a true shamen, he paved the way for many performers after him, shame he died.
To be a frontman in a band requires alot of indulging.( If you you wanna be good that is )
Truley don't speak ill of the dead!
