Unique sound or just a buzzy retro instrument?
Never seen one to play, cheapest I've seen is over a thousand pounds from a Rickenbacker specialist.
Paul Weller used to swear by them but now he says they're just another guitar and that he was attracted by the looks.
Anyone owned or ever played a Rickenbacker? Is it all cult following or is the hype justified?
Got a Rick 12 in 1967 and kept it a long while. Unmistakable sound (through a Vox Royal Guardsman and a Fender Twin).
Played a Rick 6 a year or so ago and found it more nostalgic than Knockout. If I had use for a 12, I'd look for another Rick, though - unique sound (currently play a Fender and a Gibson with Rothstein customized electrics, very different spectrum than the Rick 6). While most everything is "just another guitar" these days, custom electrics and neck work change everything, but I wouldn't change a thing on a Rick 12.
