If you want to have a good el-guitar you'll probaly have to use more than $200 - $300, but if you're new you may start with a Fender Squier, it's a very good guitar to play and it's not to hard to play it. 
But if you really want a good guitar that'seasy to play
you could buy a Gibson-SG original.
