Have not logged on for a while and am trawling through old posts and this is the funniest post I've ever read.
Surely it started out as a request to simply post appropriate material in the appropriate forum and has ended up a high-level philosophical discussion.
Oh to be a moderator.

I know this post was from a while ago, but it might help someone.

Thanks to a few kicks in the hands and some brooken bones in the thumb from playing football as a younger man, my left thumb gets sore very quickly with barre chords (I also squeeze too tight but just can't seem to relax and use less pressure as everyone recommends).

But I get over this by letting the thumb relax through slipping back down the neck into non-barre chords (especially the G and C) when I can. This sometimes adds a bit of uneven tone to things, but at least it gives the left hand a break for a while.

Now, if I could just do something about my strumming....

Not sure it qualifies, but my favourite is the opening to Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here....the reason I started playing was to get that down.

Heard this song on the radio last week and it definitely is Loudon Wainwright III

Thanks to both of you...I think I've got it...remedial strumming 101

What I find myself doing is if I walk in to someone's house and I see a guitar, I just have an (almost) irresistible urge to go over and pick it up and start picking away. Bugger the social niceties, I just want to say "Here, check this out!"
I am new to Chordie, but just love the chat and the real feelin all you people have for the gitaar and sharing your skills, experiences, tips, etc.

I admire everyone's courage....I have a singing voice best suited for announcing train arrivals, but I love Bette Midler's The Rose - really chunky chords and cos I'm not much of a player, a nice simple song (though I do venture out and barre up for the Em).

Acoustic...mainly for the sake of my family. Even the dog looks for a place to hide when I pick up the instrument.

I inadvertently posted this in the admin section so apologies to anyone reading it twice.
Can anyone helps with some tips for nailing the reggae rhythm.
I am rhythmically challenged and struggle with it.
Any tips beyond just stressing the upstroke and muting the downstroke?

Ahoy,
I'm a Leeds fan...man and boy as they say in the north, though I wouldn't really know about that as I am Australian, and follow the Whites fom afar here in Brisbane.
Good to hear there are other fans out there, no doubt all suffering slightly at the ignominy the club has been through.
A long climb back, and hard to see it happening soon without a major injection of capital from somewhere.
Still we're undefeated, and hopefully can at least climb back into the championship for next season.
