Topic: PARKWOOD -- maybe i spoke too soon (1 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
It looks like i might have to withwraw my previous endorsement of the Parkwood Guitar. I was thrilled when i picked it up cheap in a pawn shop -- in like new condition. the sound was great, playability seemed more than adaquate, and the workmanship seemed good. I have of late discovered other problems, which i will not mention here. if you're interested you can write to me.

Re: Copy and Paste To MS Word (10 replies, posted in About Chordie)
please note that this process is flawed. you cannot copy a song you have transposed using the chopro button. it reverts back to the original key. the only solution i can see is to transpose manually after the chopro transfer.

what is it with women who object to guys playing? my EX-wife -- a music hater -- used to think i practiced my guitar and my trumpet just to aggravate her. she's gone now, and i'm a better, happier musician. (my new girlfriend loves to hear me play).

Re: HEELLLPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (39 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I think some of these well-intentioned folks might be missing your point. if you're playing the first four strings are you 3rd and 4th fingers touching other strings, giving you a mufffled sound? try this -- bend your wrist sideways and forward (not the most comfortable position)-bringing it close, but not resting on the neck - thumb on the back of the neck pointing toward the tuners -- so your fingers are tilted on the strings when you look down at them they should appear to be at almost a 45 degre angle to the neck, this should raise 3 & 4 away from the other strings. -- good luck

Topic: teel strSome help or advide regarding classical/spanish guitar please? (2 replies, posted in Acoustic)
hello,
after years and years and years and years of playing, strumming and moderately picking steel string acoustic, my new girlfriend tells me she loves the sound of spanish guitar, and wants me to play. i tried an inexpensive one out at a guitar store and found it realitavely easy (for me) to move my fingers around, and play some notes and chords of course i'm sure it will take lots of practice before i master any good songs. i'm wondering about these guitars. the ones i've come across seem a little on the cheap side, and i don't want to make a big investment until i'm sure i can do it, or even like it. any thoughts on a pretty good first classical guitar -- not too expensive but reasonable quality? i tried an alverez -- seemed ok. i don't recognize a lot of the names. i play gibson, matin and epiphone in the steel strings. any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

Re: installing a pickup into an acoustic (7 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I was conned into believing that only a "professional" could drill an end pin jack hole correctly, so i paid 50 bucks the first time i had it done. One guy even told me it took a s"special" drill press. The pin fell off as soon as i tried to attach a strap, so i had to take everything apart and screw it all back in myself. the hole the guy had drilled was really rough and crappy. the next time, i got a nice sharp drill bit and my handheld electric drill and made a nice clean hole, way better than my "professional". if you can work with wood, this is a simple task.

Re: How long does it take for new strings to break in? (8 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
well, they must have been crappy strings i was originally writing about. i changed again, and this time used the D'Adarrio strings that someone recommended. a world of difference. like someone else said, it almost sounds like a new guitar.

Topic: Anyone else think Parkwood is a great guitar? (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Is it just me, or has anyone else tried one of these? It seems to play as well as any gibson or martin i have ever played. i had never heard of them when a salesman tried to get me to buy one a while back. i didn't buy it. later i saw one in a pawn shop and bought it for almost nothing. I am really impressed by the quality and sound of this instrument (PW-310M). Are the other guys just charging so much extra for their names?

Re: Copying to Word (17 replies, posted in About Chordie)
thanks to kmajors, but this did not solve my problem. i would like to see it come out the wahy it used to, with the chords bracketed withing the lines. was easy to read and adjust font sizes. most songs fit well on one page. this is no good. who went ahead and fixed something that wasn't broken? why? can it be fixed back?

Re: ACOUSTIC TROUBLE (4 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
regarding misshapped tops, my 46' gibson j-45 was begining to warp. instead of a nice smooth curve across the top below the bridge it was kind of wavy, humps up and down. i got most of this out using damp sticks -- it took quite some time.

Re: Is it weird to miss your guitar (38 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Not weird. I recently went away for 4 days -- without my guitar -- and was not too happy. i spent the whole time searching for one to play. I keep one in the back of my van (an old beater) and one in my office in case i get the urge. I only made it to 19 years married, but my guitar proved to be great therapy, and i play and feel much better now.

Re: Dumb song you like to play (31 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
here's one -- it isn't very politically correct, and you'd better not play it in mixed company -- although Martin Mull did when he wrote it way back in the 70s (i think), it's caled "Pig in a blanket." I play it once in a while for a laugh, or to piss people off.
A bahamian friend of mine had a good one called "my pussy". in the end, you find out it's about a cat.

i'm with sleepycreeker. i'm really unhappy with this new format. it used to be great to just copy and paste to word. i'm afraid i don't understand the new instructions you've given, because i can't copy and past to word and have it come out right. the table format is not really that great of a feature.

Re: What kind of guitar do you have? (240 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
What a great day this has been! I thought i'd share my good fortune with everyone. I walked into my favorite pawn shop and saw a Parkwood pw310m hanging there. asking price was only $279. This guitar sells of $499 on sale at guitar center. Well, i asked the guy if he'd take $150. he said no. He came back with $185!!! I've been playing the thing all day. it was near perfect -- just like new. I have wanted one of these since the salesman at guitar center tried selling me one. he gave it a pretty big buildup, and it sounds and looks like a pretty good quapity guitar. measures up well against my others.
I add this new acquisition to my collection. I've got an Epiphone AJ-500 masterbuilt i bought from musicians friend on a "scratch & dent" sale for only $382 including case and shipping (sells for $699) Came through perfect without a mark on it.
I did buy my Martin DM retail, on sale for $749. But i wish i had found these other deals 1st.
my original -- handed down from my grandfather who taught me to play, is a 1946 Gibson j45. all i can say is -Sweet
and for a junker to throw in the trunk and take to the beach i've got an epiphone aj-10 -- it's just ok.
had an ovation and another martin in the past - got rid of them.
